Jack Daniel's funds troops' travel costs - YOU can help too

by Steve P » Fri Nov 25, 2011 2:20 pm

If you are a local businesses owner who missed out on the opportunity to provide a free lunch to a soldier or sailor this past Vets day...Or if you are an individual who wants to do something beyond slapping a yellow "Support Our Troops" magnet on the back of your SUV... Here's your opportunity to make a difference, don't waste it.

"NASHVILLE — Tennessee whiskey maker Jack Daniel’s is donating more than $100,000 to pay for plane tickets and travel funds for soldiers at Fort Campbell, Ky., to spend the December holiday season with their families all over the country.

The distiller is also asking the public to make additional contributions that could help hundreds of cash-strapped soldiers who otherwise would be stuck at the post on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line. Donations can be made to the Operation Ride Home campaign online at http://www.jdoperationridehome.com....."

Now that we've got lil' Jaxon taken care of...and while some of you still have your checkbooks out...I thought I'd give this one a worthy "bump"

On a personal note, 35 years ago next month, I was a 19 y.o kid stationed aboard the U.S.S. America in Norfolk VA , Unable to afford an airplane or bus ticket home, I spent the better part of two days hitch hiking through an east coast blizzard trying to get home in time for Christmas (I made it home at 2 a.m. on Xmas morning) While I (now) view my personal experience as nothing more than a "character building" adventure, I have strong feelings that no service-person in this day and age should endure the same uncertainty when it comes to spending the holidays with family and friends.

Won't you PLEASE consider donating to the Jack Daniels "Ride Home" program at this link and help our KENTUCKY based troops get home for the holidays.

Worthy cause indeed, Steve. I've dispatched a donation, hopefully it helps some otherwise helpless persons be with those they love during the holidays.
