Troll Under the Bridge

by Ellen P » Sun Nov 20, 2011 6:48 pm

Washington Street and 2nd Street.
We stopped in after the UofL women's game today. Curious.
Very interesting area. Long, different rooms, bar is toward Main; someone described it as the basement of the basement. They have one area that is in the middle of the building that is open up to the sky. Wet tonight, so we didn't go out. Really neat spot.
Sat at the bar. Had a drink each and an appetizer each. Chili and beer cheese were good.
The entrance is on the Washington Street side, I guess. They have a wheelchair entrance to the left that takes you to the ramp area and restrooms next to the building.
You should stick your head in just to check out the building and at least head to the bar and have a drink.
Would like to have more food the next time, but hadn't planned on hanging around as long as we did.
The chef, maybe an owner also, came out. Very personable. 2 1/2 years in Louisville.
Good luck.

It's an awesome space, and the food is great. Been there three times already, since I work downtown. The Philly Cheesesteak was the best I've had in Louisville. The Hot Brown was better than the Brown's. The bratwurst was ok, but not outstanding like the other items.

The bar is really awesome - had to be 15-20 large HDTV screens all over the walls. It'd be a great place to watch a game.

Interesting, they do the best Cheesesteak in Louisville and a hot brown that's better than the original but they can't cook a brat. Interesting, very interesting.

I enjoyed a lunch there. You can "build your own burger" - they give a list of toppings, condiments, etc. and there is no limit on how many you can choose, which is a very grown up way of doing it. I dislike the "choose one from column one, one from column two, but items from column three are a .75 upcharge" approach. Pretzel buns are available as a bread choice, and that was a big plus for me.

Jeff said the brat was "okay, but not outstanding," not that "they can't cook a brat."

Troll has purchased Hoptimus at least on opening.

Stopped in last night for a drink before the women's game. They have a Founders and KY Ale, but other than that not a great beer list.
Also, the cocktail page, said it was provided by Diageo but it did include Brown-Forman products in the recipes.
FYI The bar area tables and the outside area are first-come first-serve.
I do like the building. And the little bit of food we've had was alright.
I think this place, O'Sheas, and the BBC Loft (before UofL games) will be my go to spots.
The Loft is my favorite. Closed this Friday for a private party before the game:-(

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

Went to the Troll today. The BF was happy to see Guinness on tap ($5). They still have the Hoptimas (sp?). We had the pretzel bread and IPA beer cheese...it was really tasty. The BF had the cheesesteak. He liked it, but said it was not a "real" Philly cheesesteak, but was good none the less. I had the build your own burger that was very nice.

Next week they change the menu. We'll go back soon for duck confit spring rolls!

I DO wish they had a decent dessert selection. I wanted to track Leah down for a cupcake, but she was filing out paperwork downtown while we were out and about in Louisville.
