New "must try" places

by Jennifer M » Sun Nov 20, 2011 9:46 am

I moved away last June and I'm coming for a visit over Thanksgiving. What are the new places that have opened that I need to try?

Try Harvest, the Garage Bar and Against the Grain. We love Harvest and have mixed feelings about the other two, but all three deserve a look. And..almost forgot Coal's Artisan Pizza. For breakfast, Highland Morning on Bardstown Road.

Where is the Silver $ going to be? Any idea what kind of menu they're going to have?

Silver $ is on the NW corner of Pope & Frankfort in the old Albert Stoll fire dept. (across the street from Maido)? No idea on menu, but know Jackie has been working on start-up

They have a website - http://www.whiskeybythedrink.com

I don't think there is a menu posted online yet, but I would describe it as rustic and the chef definitely gives me the impression that he's got some prodigal talent. I'm sure we'll all hear a lot more about this place soon.

Yeah, Chef Jonathan Schwartz...

And you've hit the nose on the head: 'prodigal talent.' He's way beyond his years. Kind of makes you do a double-take when you taste his food and see his youth. Spooky, even.

I wouldn't leave Theater Square Marketplace of that list either. Lots of good eatin' and the atmoshpere is great. I like Hillbilly Tea too. :D

I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring for the New Albany Exchange pub + kitchen. Executive Chef John Pool is putting out some excellent plates! I couldn't be more pleased.

Roots on Bardstown Rd.
My vegetarian wife dragged me to it 2 weeks ago. I loved it.
Looking forward to going back.

I'd say roots is hands down the best new restaurant this year. Freaking amazing whether you're vegetarian or not.

I love Coco's work- so restrained, so refined, so close-your-eyes-to-fully-appreciate-what-they've-just-done-to-you.

Just deliciousness...

EDIT: And she is a 'Ooops, I did it again?' personality. So humble, so true to herself. What's not to like?

Indeed. I've never had tofu I really enjoyed until I ate at Roots.

Roots

by Charles W. » Sun Dec 18, 2011 6:14 pm

I stopped by Roots today with my son who's home from college--he became a vegetarian in the summer. Spicy chili udon noodle soup was quite good. The Japanese Eggplant had the best yellow curry sauce I've ever had, and I've been eating curry with some regularity for over 45 years. My son had the green curry soup and summer rolls and loved them both. Heart and Soy even delivers in our neighborhood. Good stuff.
