Fight at Jack Fry's

by Will Crawford » Sat Nov 19, 2011 11:33 am

I heard from a very reliable source that the staff at Jack Fry's not only knows how to serve some excellent food, but also how to break up a bar fight. My friend says that she was at the bar when two men started swinging at each other and that pretty soon nearly half the restaurant was involved in someway or another. She reported, the staff handled it very well and no one was pushed thru the front windows, even though many bodies were slammed against it. Hats of to the staff.

This is not a bar fight story, but it's one of my favorites:

A million years ago, when I was young (circa 1974), my BFF and I hung out at TGIFriday's in North Atlanta. It was a very "happening" place back then, when Hot-lanta was in its hey-day. This was also when TGIFridays was just getting its start. Thursday nights were insane there, especially when the guy in the gorilla suit came out at midnight to celebrate the beginning of Friday. My friend and I were regulars and had many friends among the employees.

The PA code for trouble in the bar was "Striped Shirts to the Door!" One evening, a particularly obnoxious, drunk, rowdy, loud and short fellow was relentlessly hitting on me and my friend. He just wouldn't take, "Oh, hell, no!" as an answer. It eventually got so bad that Holly grabbed him by one arm (she was about 5'11") and I grabbed him by the other arm. We literally lifted him off the floor and carried him through the bar while the trouble code went out over the PA system.

Our path to the door was lined with stripe-shirted wait staff and we deposited the offending gentleman in the parking lot, returning to a standing ovation. Guess this is more of a "bar fight averted" story.
