Fried Turkey?

by Mari B » Mon Nov 14, 2011 3:23 pm

I was wondering is anyone knew of a place to order deep fried turkey. I'm not a fan of Turkey in general, but my husband wants to try it deep fried.

Thanks!

Mari,

Not sure I would recommend it even if you can find it. Part of the point of deep-frying the Turkey is the super crispy skin that's created. I'd think having one transported and then held until dinner time is likely to render that lovely crispy skin soft and less appetizing. Has anyone tried this?

I believe the local Kroger stores offer this option, I saw it on a special price sheet for Thanksgiving dinners. You might want to check that out.

Check with your local Popeye's fried chicken store.
In the past, they were doing pre-orders on deep fried turkeys.

Just checking. Most, if not all, of the local Popeyes are offered deep fried Cajun turkeys again this year. You DO need to call and confirm. Pre-orders only.

$39.95 at the Jeffersonville store. 10 to 12-pound turkey.

I am recalling how my best friend and I (literally) set the road on fire when frying a Turkey one year. The oil overflowed when we put the turkey in the fryer. The overflowing oil ignited when it hit the burner and subsequently caught the asphalt road on fire. It was quite spectacular. :P  12 years later you can STILL see a huge spot in the road where the asphalt melted

So, for those of you who have tried it: does the skin stay crispy when transported or held? Or does it soften up? Inquiring minds want to know....

Not sure about this year, but I think Eric of Smoketown Barbecue did them per order last year...
