Brunch at Coal's

by Gayle DeM » Sun Nov 13, 2011 4:56 pm

Brunch is my all time favorite meal. But first I need to back-track:

Friday was "Lunch Lessons" @ Limestone. The theme the week was the Incredible Egg. I won't go into all the details but the entrée was an aspargus fritata with red pepper sauce.. I can't say enough good about it, other than the fact when I stopped to consder where to go for brunch today, I could not face the thought of one of the typical humongous three-egg omlets that require me to take them home and attempt to reheat on another day. (I don't think that omelets were made to be reheated.)

So off I went to Coal's Artisan Pizza. I am a long time fan of pizza for breakfast (usually meaning, cold, straight from the fridge, leftover pizza) but the breakfast pizza at Coal's must have been designed in heaven. Today I choose the one with the in-house breakfast sausage, eggs, red and green peppers. I'm sure there were a few other ingredients, but those are the ones that sent me into ecstasy. Eggs on pizza! Who'd a thunk?

I think that I have found my Sunday brunch home!

My wife and I ate lunch at Coal's on Saturday. I'm a big fan of coal-oven pizza and had been wanting to try Coal's for a while but she wasn't interested. Now she can't wait to go back. We had Caesar salads, she had a cup of the roasted tomato soup and we split a MIddletown pizza. It was probably the best meal we've had in years. Although everything was great the soup and the sausage on the pizza were standouts.
