Valley Station area......

by Becky M » Mon Nov 07, 2011 7:50 pm

I will be in this area tomorrow afternoon....... Valley Station i believe..... from mapquest.....
Off of 264 W ----- Merge onto Dixie Hwy/US-60 W/US-31W S via EXIT 8A on the left toward Fort Knox and i am thinking of grabbing dinner before heading home in there in order to avoid the traffic...

I tried looking under the Restaurants by Location, but dont know the areas    what is nearby, budget friendly and can feed four very hungry kids? dont want fast food, Mexican always works for us    but of course open to others as well.

Great spot I don't think I've seen mentioned on forum before, country cooking, kid friendly and not too many places like this around town.

Tuscany Italian is on the Outer Loop in a shopping center that houses Walmart and it's great. A lot of forumites have posted glowing reviews of them, too. Too iconvenient for me to post a link right now, but they do have a website.

Mexico Tipico on Dixie is also a pretty good choice - it was one of the first of the more authentic Mexican places in town back in the days when Tumbleweed was actually a good pick  - so it has stood the test of time.

My PRP teacher friend loves Friday night margaritas at Mexico Tipico. In fact, now that I think of it, I've eaten there with she and her family and it was bonfide good (apple doesn't fall far from the tree? ;-) ). I friggin looove Mexican food.

Brian... Jessie's Family Restaurant sounds like something we would like. I have actually been craving some home-cooked food... that ummm is not cooked by me. I tried looking online and wasnt able to find anything, other than some reviews.

Mexico Tipico is doable as well.... is this along the lines of El Nopal or more like La Tapatia, the small place with with a bakery/store attached?

Becky, it's more of an El Nopal-type menu. It was really the first in town of that type - it goes back at least to the '90s.

Becky, I vote for Tuscany as well. The place is unassuming and the food is good.

Becky, they probably don't have a website. The vibe/environment will take you back in time and its everything you can want for home cooking on the menu.

The best Mexican on Dixie is Pina Fiesta...

...which just happens to be in the building that housed the Dixie Hwy Tuscany Italian location before it closed down.

They have standard Americanized TexMex, but also have a back page with a REAL Mexican Taqueria menu.........complete with squeeze bottles of Fresh Red & Green Chilie sauces they bring out to the table with your order.

7895 Dixie Hwy

http://www.pinafiestamexicangrill.com/

^ Look under the "Mexican Grill" tab on the menu page for the Taqueria-style portion of the menu

While maybe not quite on the level of my favorite Taquerias, it's close (for authentic tacos & such), and certainly stands above anything else on this end of town. I work in Valley Station, so my options are pretty limited...
