Home Run Burgers is giving our "Good Guy Discount" to all Veteran's with I.D. (which includes those cool celebratory-type ballcaps) on the 11th. We give this 33% discount 365 days a year to police, fireman, EMS and soldiers that are in uniform when they visit us.

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about. NICE job Kathy, really nice. Hopefully there are other owners like you.

Thanks for posting this Steve! I'll be taking advantage of a 10% discount at Lowes, Home Depot or Sears buying a new leaf blower to replace my old one which finally died after several years of pretty rigourous use. A Home Run Burger sounds like it might be in order as well. I think they must sprinkle crack on those buns they use because they're very good and highly addictive!

Must say I am saddened by the local restaurant scene's response to this one. Not much of a response advertised here for this cause, unless there is a lot of unadvertised offering going on, such as a sign in the window offering vets a free meal. Kudos to Home Run Burgers. According to a friend's son who just got back from the bad place, the food he wanted most is a real "American" burger or bbq sandwich and a cold beer. It would never be mentioned here unless I brought this up butmy husband, the Stevie P, actually smoked 60 pounds of pork and donated it to a "welcome home party" for a marine that came back from a rough time in the bad place. Most of you never know the truly generous and good side of the great man I married. I ask you restaurant owners, is it too much to offer a bowl of good soup or a burger to someone that served this country? It's not all about the guys out there today either, it goes way, way back. Let's all show some respect and recognition for those that have spent time defending and serving this country.

First,,, thank you to all of the people that have served our country, and their families. I have thought about Becky's post expressing her disappointment about the majority of the local restaurants not responding to this thread for the better part of the day. Finally, I must write my opinion. It is great that her husband donated meat , and is a generous person, and I applaud him for that. I have 1st hand knowledge of the volume of good deeds our local restaurants do every day, including giving free meals to those in uniform, among others. One chef I am blessed to call a friend is doing 3 fundraisers this week-- giving his time, talent, staff & food on 3 different nights, in 1 week!. Every day chefs/restaurants are asked to donate for good causes, and time and time again they step up to the plate, often with little or no recognition. Tonite, look at the cast of people helping March of Dimes,, a few weeks ago MS Comprehensive Center, Bourbons & Bowties, Ronald MacDonald House, Chefs For Hope,, I could go for a long while. Please do not judge this incredible group of people just because they did not reply to this thread (thank you to the ones that did),, they are busy beyond belief, and more than likely plating food to help someone....

Paula-
Only a veteran, or a close loved one, would or could understand this, I suspect you fall into neither camp.
Thanks to all veterans for their service and sacrifices.

Thanks to all the restaurants, local and otherwise, who chose on this day to recognize the Veterans of America for their sacrifices.

I had the pleasure of spending a couple of reflective hours with several thousand of these Veterans this morning. They asked me to give you all a message...The asked me to tell you: "You're Welcome".

I am VERY lucky to have a 92-year old grandfather! My mom and aunt got him down to the veteran's day parade on Friday and he had a great time! After the parade, they took him to The Cottage Inn on Eastern Pkwy for lunch (he loves their frog legs). While they were waiting for the check to arrive, he got out his credit card and laid it on the table. The server came over and explained that one of their regulars, who wanted to remain anonymous, had picked up the check for the whole table and thanked him for his service.

Thank you anonymous regular! You made a 92-year old man have an even better day. In fact, he said multiple times, "this was a good day - you know, this was really a good day!" Thanks again, it doesn't get any better than that!!!
