5 digit phone numbers

by Leah S » Thu Nov 03, 2011 11:44 am

OK, I didn't know where to post this, so if it needs to come down, that's OK.

You know how restaurants (and other businesses) have those 5 digit phone numbers to register for a loyalty club? Papalino's has one - 72727 I believe. You sign up and then they can text you specials and deals and such.

So, where do you get the phone number?

I don't think it's the phone number you are getting -- the keywords are what differ with each business. I have seen several use the same one. It must be owned by a company selling the service but I don't know who.

Edit: Looks like it could be this company but I would do some more research to be sure.

That looks like a number that you send a text to. That puts your phone on their list and they can then text you back. Just guessing, though.

Yeah it's a short code. There are companies that manage short codes - google mobile marketing. Or there are services like constant contact(maybe?) that combine email/mobile/social marking in one platform. Buying and managing your own short code can be expensive. Locally, check out newpanda.com although some might say that short codes are already being replaced by QR codes.

Thanks guys. I've been doing QR codes for quite a while, but just hadn't quite figured out these phone code thingies.

Now that just about everybody under 60 (and many over) have smart phones, I really do think QR codes are going to get really, really big as soon as the general public grasps what they are. The simple explanation: They make the real world clickable.

A lady came in here and talked to me about it but It wasn't for me. I didn't even think I would make my money back for what I paid out for it. Papalino's uses the same company I forget its formal name but it's ULOFFERS There is another one my friend Stan uses when I talk to him I will let you know what it is.
