Vegetarian Restaurants

by Jackie Vetter » Fri Oct 05, 2007 4:21 pm

I'm having a hard time finding a really good vegetarian restaurant, of course the Zen Garden is delicious....just wondering if there is anything else in Louisville?

Thanks

While there are lots of vegetarian friendly restaurants, Zen Garden is the only exclusively vegetarian restaurant.

Thanks for the reply, Heather. Do you have any favorites? We just keep eating at the same places because we don't know of many choices, and most think that all vegetarians like to eat is pasta dishes.

3rd Ave Cafe is the first place that comes to my mind. They have a ton of vegetarian stuff and everything I've eaten there has been quite good.

Ramsi's expanded menu now is very good. I recommend the Parmesan Seitan Panini there.

Amici not far from 3rd Ave has several vegan options (and blows 3rd AVE out of the water IMO).

Vietnam Kitchen will make most of their dishes with Tofu or Mock Duck.

I seem to recall Cafe Lou Lou having some nice options but I havent visited there in a bit.

Though not local and even being a chain, the veggie burger at Ruby Tuesday is insanely good.

Thank you for all the replies. I checked out Third Avenue Cafe and it looks really good. I'm going to check out the others.

Just have to know who to ask, right?

Thanks again.

We recently introduced a 100% vegetarian lunch menu at Sweet Surrender. Lunch is served Tuesday-Saturday 11am-2pm.

The menu is brief but delicious and we've had very good responses so far.

You can find a copy of the menu on our blog at: http://sweetsurrenderdessertcafe.blogspot.com

Don't forget The Grape Leaf. My wife is a veggie and she has several options.
I like it because I can get what I want too.

Jessica:

Thank you. I took a look at your blog. Great! Do you have vegan desserts? We're going for dinner to the Zen tonight might go by for a coffee and dessert!

Joe:

Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard about the Grape Leaf, so I'll check it out also! This is so great! So many places to go eat!

Vegetarian Options

by Eliza W » Fri Oct 05, 2007 6:39 pm

Meridian Cafe has a number of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu.

I had a black bean burger there that was great for its kind. It was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with a good amount of spices. It was served on good bread and dressed with tahini and fresh, crisp salad greens. I love a good bean burger, and this was it.

Jackie,

We make vegan desserts by special order and request 48 hours notice. I don't have any on hand tonight but we do occassionally have them available by the slice at the cafe. You can always call ahead to find out.

I'm sure you'll have a great dinner at Zen Garden. I hope you save some room for dessert!

I love the vegetarian plate at Havana Rumba.

I also like several things at Shiraz.

I am so glad I found this forum. You all have given me such great advice. Jessica, we went to your establishment tonight after dinner at the Zen Garden. We had a wonderful cup of coffee, and my husband is partial to carrot cake, so we bought a piece and it was so big that both of us couldn't eat it all, so we brought the rest home.

Quite, quite delightful. Thank you for responding with the information. I asked for you, but they said you were not there tonight.

I've been vegetarian for 26 yeas and I eat everywhere. I'm quite partial to 3rd Ave Cafe as they even fry the potatoes for vegan/vegetarian plates in a separate fryer. And those mesquite chips are mmmmmmmm.

Lots of good suggestions, but don't limit yourself. I am a strict veg (no meat, dairy, or eggs) and, like Leah, have found something just about everywhere I've been. Rarely I am forced to ask the kitchen to create something not on the menu, but they have always been willing.

That said, I'd like to add some for consideration:
Queen of Sheba
El Mundo
August Moon
Yang Kee Noodle
North End Cafe (lunch has more, I think)
Thai (Simply Thai, Sala Thai, Thai Taste, etc)
Indian (India Palace, Kashmir, etc)
