Korean restaurant in St. Matthews

by Rich S » Mon Oct 31, 2011 11:48 am

Charim Korean Restaurant is applying for a liquor license to open at 4123 Oechsli Ave. That's a few doors down from Havana Rumba, in the spot where Dejlah Bistro operated before the fire last year. (And before that, I believe it was La Catalana and Royal India.) I'm glad that someone is taking over the location.

I don't care about the curse. I don't often get to have Korean food, so I wanna check this out. Thanks for the tip!

Have you checked out Lee's Korean on Bishops - been there 30 years. I hope the new Korean place can make a go of it. Nothing has been able to sustain business in that particular spot - I assume it's the shadow of Havana Rumba, ie no parking, etc.

I am certainly rooting for a winner to fill the location, as I live within walking distance. However, while I take no pleasure in speaking ill of the deceased, IMO, neither Dejlah or India Palace was very good, and I would be willing to bet that had more to do with their respective closings than location. And I really wanted to like both of them. Also, the idea of a bistro with no booze bothers me, but that may be more a reflection on myself.

Either way, I have only had Korean food once, so I look forward to the opening.

I haven't been to Lee's, no. It's been on my list to visit since I moved back four years ago, but for some odd reason I still haven't made it there. Thanks for the reminder, though!

Yeah I've been meaning to check out both, but haven't. Need to rectify that immediately!

Lee's is great. The food was very good and the service was exceptional. We explained we had not had korean food before and the lady took the time to go over the menu with us and find out our likes and make suggestions all this with a busy lunch business. :)

Oh be still my heart. I absolutely love Korean food. We have a big Korean population in Seattle and there were many great Korean restaurants popping up all over that town. I hope they do barbecue cooking at the table. Ahhh, pork belly in sesame oil :D :D :D :D

The Charim Korean Restaurant sign went up this week; I hope that means it will be open soon. A notice in the front window says they will be open for lunch and dinner Monday-Saturday.

If they specialize in BBQ they will do fine. I want to cook at the table too!

I stopped in yesterday and found out they will be open Feb. 9th (my birthday!!!)

The place looks very nice! The space is much more open than that of the former occupants (perhaps due to the fire?) I actually don't remember seeing the little wall with the pass window in it- that could be why it's so open. There are maybe 20 tables or so, but it doesn't look crowded at all. The lighting also is much better.

Marie,

Can you confirm if cooking at the table is part of their set-up?

Thanks,
Deb
