Welcome Trader Joe's! Who's been?

by Robin Garr » Fri Oct 28, 2011 10:58 am

First off, what did you think?

Second, here's the slogan I'm carrying today:

Louisville welcomes Trader Joe's! It's going to be fun to check out the wacky specialty items and Two Buck Chuck, but let's remember: To keep Louisville weird, for every $1 we spend at TJ's, let's commit to spend $2 at Lotsa Pasta, Rainbow Blossom Natural Markets and Burgers Market-Louisville.

My hubby is part of the crew at TJ's and I spoke with him at 7:45. He used the word mayhem twice! He said the entire crew has been so psyched for today. Three of my coworkers have already been over there this morning and said despite some long lines, things were moving pretty quickly and that it was super busy but not chaotic. I'm awaiting a check in from Mike around noon - if he gets a chance to break away. He did mention that they were getting a major replenishment shipment on Sunday morning, so I may wait for then to make my first visit.

All I know is he better not come home today without some Chuck and some garlic herb pizza dough!!

I just left. Too insanely crowded for me. It's smaller than I thought, but I'm good with that. I'll go back next week to shop.

I went, and still don't understand the big fan-fair. Yes, there are some hard to find gems. Not that impressive. Prices seem good.

People watching was the best part! Seems lots of people got all dressed up to see & be seen!
Saw one woman almost cry, after telling how she had to live for seven years without TJ's since moving to Louisville.

Yes, lets continue to support the locals. Don't forget Grasshopper CSA , etc.

I may need to direct deposit my paycheck to Lotsa Pasta!

Pretty easy to do - just go buy one of whatever it was you bought at Trader Joes at Rainbow Blossom the next time. That should cover the $2 for $1 thing quite nicely.

Not feeling like dealing with the crowds yet, I did go to Rainbow Blossom in NA instead. Had a Morels "turkey" apple lentil wrap for lunch that I picked up there, and got some local grass-fed beef and some veggies. Just noticed the chicken below the beef in the freezer and will have to try that next time.

We're hoping things calm down a bit a the weekend goes on. We want to check it out.

I had to go to the post office for a work errand that couldn't wait, and got stuck in TJ's traffic. Coming from Clifton, it was backed up to the Liquor Barn. I can't imagine what is at Trader Joe's that is worth the road rage. I'd like to check it out eventually, but I'll wait a while!

I also heard that a few people camped out overnight so they could be first in the store. I just don't understand. :?:

I don't get it either. It's not like TJ is something really important like the latest iPhone.

This has nothing to do with Trader Joe's and everything to do with my hatred of the St Matthews post office - but depending on the time of day - check out the post office at Masonic Homes!!! They close for lunch and have very limited hours on Saturday, but other than that it is wonderful! You can park and there is never anyone there.
