Suggestions for Birthday Dinner

by TeriCP » Thu Oct 27, 2011 1:30 pm

Our daughter turned 17 today and we are wanting to go out for her birthday. She is kinda a Bardstown Roadie so we'll keep it local and on the downlow since it's a school night etc... I'm just having a had time coming up with something different. Any suggestions?

Tapas at La Bodega can be very hip and cool in the heart of Bardstown Road. Ramsi's has one of everything so lot's of choices there to consider at a nice price. Then you can go upscale at Seviche or Liley's Bistro - so many options on that stretch of pavement to consider.

For more formal, try Jack Fry's . . . too expensive for her on her own, very "grown-up" place, yet still casual and not ultra "dressy".

For more low-key fun, why not try progressive tastings . . . go to each of the main pizza places (Wick's, Papalino's, etc.) and get a small pie at each to compare, or to several sushi places & do the same.

Well, we ended up way off of our beaten path.... Had Birthday Dinner out at Goose Creek Diner as we had other reasons to be out in the area. We hadn't been that way for a while.

We got there about 7:30 PM and the place was about half full.. We were definitely the tail end of the dinner crowd. It was pasta night, and my daugher leaned toward the lasagna, but being half Italian, she finds it hard to find a lasagna that lives up to her paternal grandma's version. She spotted the chicken-fried chicken (with potatoes w/ white gravy and a fruit cup) and was sold. Since we all were throwing "caloric caution to the wind", my husband order the chicken fried steak (potatoes w/ gravy and green beans) and I had the meatloaf with mac-n-cheese and FRIED GREEN TOMATOES... I love me some fried green tomatoes and these were delicious. There were only two, which disappointed me 'cause I swear I could make a meal of them alone. Daughter also had a mixed berry smoothie that we all tasted and thought was good.

Anywho, she had a good birthday dinner and we covered some new old ground. Turned out right nice.
