I see that as more than pushy; it is unprofessional and disrespectful. I'd really like to hear from The Cow's camp on this one.

That is just wrong and so many ways! As Justin said it's certainly not professional and very disrespectful of another business who has done nothing wrong. I like both businesses but after hearing this I know where my business is going to be going and it's not CC!

No, it is not about ice cream. Being so disrespectful to a neighboring business is about class and values. And anyone who has class and values can see that sending a mascot to a competing business on their opening night is totally classless.

I like CC products but I can most definitely live with out them.

for that reason i will continue my support to homemade ice cream&pie kitchen.

This isn't really about the ice cream, is it?

I am very upset by this whole situation. I in no way represent Comfy Cow, but I have known Roy for over 20 years. He does not have a mean bone in his body and only wants to make good ice cream. We were at Comfy Cow on Saturday night and Roy never said a word about HMICPK. I brought it up and he said, "we are different from each other" and that is all. I do no know about the mascot business, maybe a over zealous employee? I do know that CC had pies and cheesecake in Westport and decided for space reasons to limit them. Why not try them again in a bigger space? There is a place for both and I wish them both well.

Don't forget class and respect, when anyone has different values or ideology from yours it's still possible to exhibit these traits.

Again, you like to make unfounded, baseless personal attacks and then put the silencer on any responses.

If you are going to take first jabs, at least be man enough to take them back.

You read an awful lot into two words, Brian. I'll bet a dime, though, that your use of "values" in this particular situation has a very specific meaning.

Let's not commit an injustice the other way.

It's likely that all can be explained by an overly enthusiastic mascot.

I disagree.

Adam Smith thought so.

I guess I'm confused by the context.

I can see why Smith would say that Capitalism arises from Natural Law, but I don't see how it follows that Capitalism must lead to assholiness, or at least more so than any other economic system.

much success to you.

Just to get the facts straight, a scoop of Homemade P is $2.76, While a scoop of Cc is $3.15. So needing a loan on that is kind of sad....but you go ahead and make those vicious assumptions and hope they give you a whopping 10% discount or something to bolster your rhetoric.

And he went across the street and posted a positive one? I'm just saying your singling out of cc's prices are off the mark. I've always enjoyed hmpic but think you calling them out on a "small bank loan" is pretty petty.

Well, teleological ethics doesn't necessarily map to assholiness. I'd call it value-neutral. The idea actually came to mind in response to your post because of a weird koinkydink - within the hour I had typed the following on a theology midterm:

* Teleological ethics directs its primary attention to the goals (“goods”) that we seek in life, simplifying morality by identifying a simple, clearly stated goal in place of the complexities of law and rigidities of morality that had grown up during previous centuries. Adam Smith, the founder of modern economics, urged the adoption of free markets, believing that the “invisible hand” of the marketplace would guide moral choices because good goals would be most likely to succeed.
