Toki M taking back over at Maido?

by Robin Garr » Fri Oct 21, 2011 1:13 pm

This little nugget was buried in Marty's Dragon King's Daughter review in Veloci ... er, the CJ today. Anyone else heard this? Know any details?

What I posted is all I've got. That's why I asked for more!

In the context of the article, though - a review that did not suggest DKD is closing - I have to assume it's both/and.

She's doing both. Went last week to maido and had the yummiest egg drop soup w shitake mushrooms drizzled w chili oil, And the Japanese carpaccio. Had the lloco unoaked Chardonnay with them. They have the perfect kids menu IMO. My 4 yr old gobbles up edamame, cucumber rolls, and avacado rolls, or they have children's plates that come with a little pudding cup. I hope they stay forever!

Toki is doing both. She actually has been for several weeks already. The most recent owner before she regained control burnt out and closed the doors. Maido was actually closed for a week before Toki took control of the reins again.

At the time I was actually surprised no one on the forum mentioned the very abrupt closing of a successful restaurant. I watched the forum, but did not want to start any rumors by talking about what was going on at the time when I didn't know the entire situation. I was thrilled when Toki came back. It's great having her as a neighbor again!

Same here Jessica. When they were closed I was hoping it was for remodeling or anything! I'm glad she stepped back in and didn't let it die!

It's surprising how this has all been under the radar! I live in Crescent Hill and drive past Maido frequently, but sometimes it's hard to tell if it's open unless the weather is nice and people are outside.

Plus, I guess it's okay to say now that when Toki left, I kind of quit paying attention to Maido. I'm really glad she's back, and running both places. She's a treasure!

It looks like they've made some tweaks to the menu. It looks great but I noticed that takoyaki is no longer offered. Bummer!
