The only thing I miss here in Norton Commons is the "J" train, the elevated train that ran past our "live works" growing up in Woodhaven, Queens
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/11/reale ... wanted=allExcept instead of Bodegas, and chains,we had Italian bakeries, Polish butchers, shoe stores, furniture stores, toy stores, music and dance stores, shoe repair, funeral parlors, bars, lots of bars, banks, Realtors, and most of the Halloween costumes you get now started on 88th st and Jamaica ave.
It was a little Horner novelty like store called Rubies, (check your costume tags) , candy stores, Delis that carried Boars Head products. Paint and wallpaper store, Giant hardware stores, on two different ends of the Ave. Owned by the same folks. Fruit and vegetable store, and the family lived around the corner. The "Biondo's" were their names. Pizzerias, that would sell by the slice, and bags of Zeppole with powdered sugar, 10C a piece. Of course places of worship, and wedding halls.
Aaah, the good old days.
