NuLu suggestions for a rookie

by Ron Taglieri » Fri Sep 30, 2011 5:47 pm

Went to NuLu festival late last Saturday night, but had already eaten and so did not eat. However, my wife and I loved the area and would like to return early tomorrow evening for a nice dinner.

Any suggestions for a first timer in the area? Will be likely dining during U of L game so hopefully not already packed to rafters by 6 pm or so.

Let me know

Thanks

Ron

Garage Bar is fun for drinks and oysters. You could start there and do a progressive. Hit Wilshire on Market for apps, then maybe Harvest or Mayan for dinner.

what will said, plus the beer store for some quality craftsmanship. they have a patio out back but you have to travel through the scary back door to reach it. wiltshire and harvest are two of my current favs.

That's a good plan - I like Mozz as well. Are they NuLu or just downtown?

My wife and I were wondering the same thing while driving down Market Street after the AIDS Walk this past Sunday. We've not been down there lately and were gawking around at some changes. Mozz is before the I-65 overpass, which is where we speculated is the western border of the gelling district. If so, that leaves out Mozz, La Rosita and Saffron's. Now the latter two are way closer to Downtown and, if not part of NuLu, at least have a rousing song by Petula Clark. So far NuLu has no such anthem. Seems it goes to Baxter, is only Market Street, but where does it start?

Ended up at Harvest for fabulous meal and bottle of wine. Both food and service were top notch. Looking forward to trying out other recommended places but bar was set high tonight.

Thanks again for suggestions

Thank you! Is was better as Clay Street Live! At least then, everyone knew it was a joke.

I'm lucky enough to live in East Market District--it's fantastic! Anyone know when Decca/Rye/Taco Punk are opening up? Or any other restaurants in the area?

Rye should be getting close. Word is that Toast won't move into their new space until Thanksgiving, and Taco Punk won't go in until January.

Yeah, I see they're filling in the cement this week. Does Rye plan to have an outdoor area like Decca/Garage Bar?

LOL! We were by there yesterday and they had all the windows torn out and were dumping gravel inside so there isn't even a floor yet. I'm sure it will be after the first of the year before they are open.

Just walked down East Market today and saw that 2 more businesses opened up in the last week in time for the First Friday Trolley Hop---Taste Fine Wines and Bourbon, and Peace of the Earth Natural Bath Boutique.

John N wrote:Taste Fine Wines and Bourbon,

I saw them moving out of their former location in the new condo/retail building on Frankfort next door to Blue Dog. It was an attractive facility, and you could certainly get wine there, but as a wine geek, I never felt that it really had the kind of interesting selection I wanted. It looked like what I call "inventory chosen by distributors."

This may change in their new location, so I won't pick on them any more than that. ;)
