Requiem for the Packer bar

by Tim Y » Sun Sep 25, 2011 2:20 pm

I remember seeing that Dutch's had closed, but it was not football season, so it didn't sink in. But now I am totally devastated. They had a lively crowd every week, and some very dedicated fans!!!! As a child in the mid '60's, ( am I that old?) In some my earliest "memories", I can remember sitting on my grandfathers lap, after church of course, watching Bart, & Paul, and company, dominate the league. I was told "pawpaw" had one of the first color TV's in the state. 8) So yes I am a big fan. Last week they weren't on reg TV so I had to find the game. Big Al's Beeritaville saved the day. They have a following and we all enjoyed the W. It is only about a mile from the house, and I will probably go today after the wife gets off work. Peace, Love, and Go Packers.

:? ...Having spent 18 years in Minnesota, I'm loving me some Vikings but I gotta say the Pack has probably got the best fans in the league.

Hey Alan, Thanks for that info. I figured the group from Dutch's would find a new place, but had no idea where. I don't know where Zazoo's is but I'll find it. :D In the "politics" of the NFL, the Pack can never leave the city because the citizens of GB are the stockholders. So if you wanted to move the team ,you would also have to move it's residents!!! That makes for a good fan base, and they are adamant about the team. We beat 'Da Bears soundly and sorry about those Vikes.

+1...though I do have to say, I'm conflicted this year because I've got Aaron Rodgers, Jermichael Finley, and the Pack defense on my fantasy team. Don't know whether to root against them or for them.

Cheer for your team. And don't play fantasy.

...Annnnnd as a reminder The New Direction is the home away from home for all Browns fans (Browns attire STRONGLY encouraged)...Squealers and Bungles fans need not apply. Rooties is the home of all things Buffalo "Bills" (GREAT crowd for the Bill's game)...ya'll better hurry if you're going to get on THAT band wagon because they are playoff bound this year.

Not trying to toss anyone under the bus but Gerstels reached out to the Packer fan base because it is so strong, and was refused as the new Packer place to watch... The Dutches crowd moved down to Big Al's Beeritaville on 1715 Mellwoood. Not sure about Saints, but their pizza is absolutetly the best I have had in Louisville in years. Apparently the sauce recipe is an old family one. The oven and pans have been well broken in with the several food joints that been in there before them. I do not care how many pizza places movein to the Matties none will beat Saints any time soon. Yummmmm!

Dude...Gerstels is a VIKINGS bar (or as close to it as you can come to it in the Ville)...if they "reached out" to the Packer crowd it was -only- because (A) they don't understand what the REAL rivalry is about and (B) because they had $$$ in their eyes. I'm a Vikings fan but I have the UTMOST respect for the Cheese Heads....If I were of the Cheddar Head persuasion I would have done the exactly same thing...Tell Gerstels to "Pack" it.

Wait, wait - the Browns still have fans? I seem to remember them all committing suicide en masse when Dan Modell moved the team to Baltimore.

Beeritaville is where this Packers fan goes when I want to congregate with cheeseheads! Good pub grub, just wish they had some good beer. Mike the owner is a die hard Packers fan and the atmosphere feels like your partying in his basement.
