Excellent Tapas at Anchorage Cafe!

by Deb Hall » Wed Sep 21, 2011 11:02 pm

Brian and I went last Friday night. They were having a private party downstairs ( MozzaPi owner’s rehearsal dinner?), so we sat at a table on their patio overlooking the perennials. Short wine list- but their recommended Malbec ( $30) was so good for the price-point that we stopped at Liquor Barn on the way home and bought several bottles. Our server was sweet and very helpful; service was very good ( we were impressed for a place so recently opened.) And then there was the food!.... :D Our food was excellent , and with the small plates format we were able to try 5 different dishes. Menu rotates every two weeks; this week's is below. Everything had great flavors and interesting combinations of ingredients. Our favorites were the Duck Confit & Sweet Potato Hash ( great seasonal flavors with incredibly tender duck), the Paddlefish Caviar ( this was a small but incredible combination- highly recommend) and the Romano Beans ( started off a little strange on our palates, but turned addictive- we fought over the last bean). We left very happy and satisfied for less than $70 including our bottle of wine. No kids menu currently, but we were told they’d be happy to accommodate us with something kid-friendly if requested. We loved this place and what Ryan and Andrew are doing there- this is a new favorite!

Went back to Anchorage Cafe with Aiden ( 7 yr old) on Friday night , and was blown-away again by the food and the friendly, accomodating team. I had the Kentucky Rose and Apple Crostini which was a fantastic combination; I also had to have the Duck Confit and Sweet Potato Hash again. :D The latter was even better this second time ( which is really rare in my book). Aiden asked for Pizza (a little to my chagrin) and even though it's not on the menu, Chef Ryan offered to make him one! The resulting scratch pizza was great, with a wonderful dipping sauce that Ryan & Andy had just whipped up. Aiden loved it- and loved the attention.

Service was very friendly and attentive; we had visits to the table by both Ryan and Andy which was very nice. I echo what Garret said: GO!
