Tin Roof and Mellow Mushroom coming to St Matthews?

by Brad Young » Wed Sep 21, 2011 10:12 am

Just heard from a beer rep that Tin Roof is moving in to the Brendans and Mellow Mushroom in to Dutch's. Anyone know anything?

Called a buddy of mine in Chattanooga (where they've had a Mellow Mushroom for years)...told him MM might be coming to L'ville and asked him if we should be excited. He said "absolutely". Apparently the MM in Chattanooga has 40-some taps. Sure would love to see me some Sweetwater or Terrapin beers on tap around here.

That makes Spinelli's, Naked Pizza, Di'Orios, Coals, Cafe Lou Lou, BBC, Domino's, Pizza Hut and Papa John's within a one mile radius. 2 of the aforementioned offer other fare but serve quality pizza.

I'd rather see a focus on older style music or something unique. We lost 2 live music venues with the closings- let's hope that part of it returns.

I live in Chattanooga, Steve. Or I have a house and wife there! My youngest boy turned me onto Sweetwater. I get it every trip home. I could be bribed to bring you some! I sure love a good pork rib, but not fall off the bone kind though! I think Nashville is as far north as they go. I've talked to Rivercity Dist about getting it up here. Going home this weekend.

I have a Sweetwater 420 Fest pint glass in my dish sink right. It's one one of my regular H2O glasses! Just picked up 2 new pint glasses from Valu Mkt, thought, for purchasing Schlafly beer (and a much needed bottle opening keychain since my Cumberland one finally carved down to a thumbnail). I have one very rich memory of a night at Sweetwater Brewery in Atlanta.

From the Mellow Mushroom in Boone NC....The pizza was pretty good and the beer selection was outstanding. I'm giving it an "89" on Robin's scale...on second thought that WAS a damn dood beer selection...So a 91. :D

I've been to the MM in Lexington and it is very funky, and the food is pretty solid. A good pizza option, but I'll probably be a die-hard Boom Bozz and Clifton's Pizza loyalist until I die.

Just curious Steve,

Is beer still the only "legal" choice for an alcoholic beverage in Boone?

Also, in keeping with the original topic...we have enjoyed a MM pie on occasion in Atlanta and find them to be tasty.

Harold,

I'm not sure what the rules are for serving alcohol stronger than beer. Tell ya what though, this neck of the woods has one of the best beer scenes in the fricking world. There are many-many good beers and I'm doing my best to try all of them :P

MM seems to us to be in the same vein as Boombozz, Impellizeri's, etc...and folks who enjoy those pies should find MM a welcome edition to pizza-dom in the Ville. That said, I don't know that we'll be beating the door down of the St. Matts location until the "Next Big Thing" syndrome runs it's course.

Don't forget about Duck Rabbit, it is worth a try, not as heavy as regular stouts.
It's like a cream soda on steroids to me.

Duck Rabbit has a local connection in its owner, Paul Philapon. Paul was the second brewer at the defunct Pipkin (now bbc production) Brewing and my point of contact there when BBC was contracting bottles. Paul's claim to fame is the largest collection of reggae I've ever seen that didn't have a bong next too it.
