Visiting New Albany restaurants

by Andrea N. » Sat Sep 17, 2011 9:40 pm

Since the closure of the Sherman Minton bridge, my family and I, Floyd County residents, decided that we will make an effort to visit more New Albany restaurants. Last week we visited one of our favorite restaurants, River City Winery. We again were not disappointed. Their flavorful brick oven pizzas are a superb blend of olive oil, sauce, and spices. Their hummus platter is excellent and their wine is not bad either. Better yet, their pizzas are 20% off on Sundays! We especially like this restaurant since it is non-smoking.

Today we visited Wick's Pizza. We had some excellent "piled high" pizza and wonderful breadsticks. This was our first visit to Wick's in New Albany and we will return.

Not sure where we will visit next. Bank Street Brewhouse, La Rosita, and Toast are on our short list. We are open for suggestions. We prefer non-smoking restaurants and our 11 year old likes Caesar salads.

Bank Street and Richo's (NABC) are both non-smoking and great.

Andrea,
I second Justin's suggestions and also highly recommend the NA Exchange located near the NABC Pizzeria in New Albany, the Fireside Grill in Sellersburg, and the Come Back Inn in Jeffersonville.

Habana Blues, Jacksons, Onion Tea House, & NA Exhange are on my standard route :D
There is a new fried fish place on Grantline that I have not been to though.

We were walking around downtown NA yesterday and were pleasantly surprised with how busy the restaurants were. We were going for Lancaster's but didn't realize they don't do lunch on Saturdays (but their food is great), so we ended up at Patticakes Pies & Cakes instead...who has much more than just pies and cakes. They have over 30 sandwiches on their menu, plus a bunch of salads, and a soup of the day along with another special, usually a comfort food like meat loaf or chicken & dumplings. I definitely recommend them. Nonsmoking as well. Delicious food...and of course the baked goodies are awesome too.

Habana Blues appeared to be pretty busy yesterday too. I've never been there but we keep meaning to try it out.

Andrea, glad to see you are supporting your local community. It's very important that we support our local restaurants and businesses during this time. We hope that you will be able to visit the New Albany Exchange soon.

Shawn,

I have passed by the new fish place a number of times and for some reason I have never found them open. I think it is called Alabama Style Fish and Chicken....or something like that.

La Rosita is today's living social offering. I posted a link on the Deals forum if interested...

Where on Grant Line is Alabama Fish?

Dan, it was in the strip mall across from the Kroger but I think it's gone already. I had some a couple a months ago and never even considered returning. I love fried fish! I would stick with Jacksons downtown if fish is your thing.

OK, so I am guessing it was in the old La Rosita tacqueria location. It's tough to get my wife to go to a fried fish joint so we have actually never made it to Jackson's. Also, typically when in downtown NA we are dining at Toast, La Rosita, Habana Blues, Bank Street, or Wick's. With so many good options available it can be difficult to try something new.

Great options. I've had some good meals at LaBocca too. Habana Blues has been consistently excellent. I also love the Bank Street Brewhouse. I can no longer recommend La Rosita, however. Too many people have had really dreadful service there of late. Friends left after sitting for 20 minutes with servers standing idly around and they were never waited on. My wife and daughter were there forever waiting for food the other night and they botched the order. Additionally, my wife's food was not even hot any longer. They seem like they have no adjusted to their new space and can't provide adequate service any longer. Sad.

There have been many comments along these lines. We've found the food to have been as fine as ever, and frankly, since I'm known to them, probably I'm not the one to comment on service, which has been good. They've had time to grow into the space. Are they spread to think with expansion?
