The Blind Pig

by Steve Kluesner » Sun Sep 11, 2011 1:32 pm

We enjoyed a nice late lunch at The Blind Pig today. We loved the atmosphere there but what an odd location.

I had the bacon butty sandwich and it was truely one of the best sandwiches I have ever tasted.

What's odd - it's in Butchertown.

Well....ok...not odd....off the beaten path....we looked and looked and finally we found it. I should have printed the map or taken the gps. Don't get me wrong, the location did not stop me from trying it out....I like the location....but my thought was why a nice place in a industrial neighborhood but never put the connection together. I am not a local so that is why I thought it was odd....we usually look for the stores on Frankfort, Baxter, Bardstown Road......but always open for new suggestions and locations.

You also need to check out East Market from downtown to Butchertown - this is becoming The restaurant scene in this town quickly. I would consider The Blind Pig to be a part of that scene. As Robin mentioned in another thread The Garage and a host of other exciting places to eat. New ones popping up every couple on months and that's impressive in a recession.

We have been driving by there quite a bit lately. We hit Mozz on Friday night and Toast this morning.

Any thoughts on 732 Social? We kick around the Garage Bar last night but with the rain...it was packed inside.

We wish we had more time to spend here but we try our best to hit some of the local joints.

So many choices.....so little time.

732 is awesome - really great food and a lively atmosphere. Great cocktails, etc.

Well thank-you Mr. Head - always nice to get a compliment from the forum. It's much appreciated.... But also - The Blind Pig creators (as I've been told) are soon to embark on phase two of their operation - upstairs lounge as I've been told. I'm always the last to know things, so I may be unlidding info everyone already is aware of. ... I've just been proud to see them reap big success in their contribution to Butchertown - and I'm positive they will with the next phase as well.... Sorry Jeremy if I let the cat out of the bag. Concept sounds amazing from what I've been told.

Steve,

You must go to 732 Social. Really amazing food and since the menu is largely small plates, it's great to share several choices and try a couple of things.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Steve- they're right, 732 Social is great! I hope you come back and check us out at the Blind Pig for dinner as well, some of our most signature dishes are only available on our dinner menu. It's a nice contrast between day and night.

Jayson- you didn't let the cat out of the bag, we are working on our upstairs...I'll have a little more info for everyone in a little while, but for now I'll let people guess a bit :) There is a fair amount of info already floating around out there. Looks like we're about 8 weeks out.

I finally made it to the Blind Pig this evening. OMG We shared a chacuterie and cheese plate, a meat plate and then, to add a "bit" of vegetable, the white bean puree. We ended with the butter pecan bacon brittle ice cream. Killer food! The Toulouse sausage on the meat plate was some of the best sausage I've ever eaten - pure finely ground pork and garlic. Does it get better than this?

I think I need to take an extra cholestrol pill tonight!

I can't wait to return! I hear the smoked duck breast salad, the bison patty melt, sthe hepherds pie (made with lamb and bison), the fresh pork (Heck, the whole darn menu.) calling my name.
