Bridge closed - salute to Bank Street Brewhouse

by Andrea N. » Sat Sep 10, 2011 2:57 pm

With the Sherman Minton Bridge closed, it will be bit more difficult to get to New Albany businesses. I salute Roger and his crew at NABC and Bank Street Brewhouse for posting on their Facebook page alternative routes to Bank Street. Hope other New Albany businesses follow NABC's lead. It could be a long closure....

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)- Officials say that it will be at least three weeks before they know what caused the Sherman Minton bridge to crack and what possible repairs it might require.

They managed to get around in Minneapolis/St Paul for more than a year and a half after the I-35 bridge collapsed...and one way or the other we'll manage to get around here for a few weeks.

Andrea, thanks for providing updates at our Facebook site as we try to fathom the next bit of improvisational weirdness in detouring.

The bridge being closed is a substantive jolt to community routines, a burden for commuters, and an overall pain in the butt, but I believe there are as many positives for downtown New Albany businesses as there are negatives. We must focus on the positives, continue selling our concepts, and keep this revitalization thing on the move.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Here's one: Given that I-65 up through Clarksville/Cementville/Sellersburg is arguably the nastiest route in Southern Indiana, jumping right off of it onto 62/Browns Station/East Spring is a GOOD thing, and takes you fairly quickly into downtown New Albany by an attractive route that takes you through some attractive parts of the city on the way downtown. And I wonder if it's not actually a little closer from Louisville that way.

This is precisely what we're trying to convey, thanks. North and westbound from Louisville coming from Louisville should not be a problem during non-rush hour times.

I made the call yesterday to move the start time for our fall beer tasting on the 29th from 5PM to 6PM based on the bridge closure. We get a lot of traffic from Louisville for this tasting (20 different fall beers available at one tasting) and my thoughts are to go from 6PM to 9PM to encourage our Louisville customers to come a bit later than normal to avoid the rush hour traffic.

At least you have a bit of time to see how things shake out.
