New restaurant on Westport Road

by Mark R. » Mon Oct 01, 2007 10:30 am

Does anyone know anything about the new restaurant going in where the old Kroger was on Westport Road? There is a big sign up front now I believe the name is "Incredible Dave's" or something very similar to that. We went by there yesterday and it looks like there's a lot of construction going on. If they're taking over the entire store it certainly is going to be a large restaurant. Hopefully someone knows more about it.

Sounds sort of like Chuck E Cheese write large, doesn't it, Mary Anne. :)

I took the liberty of editing your post to hide that long URL, which was stretching the window.

I barely noticed the sign last night. It said something like, food and entertainment making me thing either a Chucky Cheese or perhaps a Jullians / Dave and Busters type place. I just wish Spinelli's would get open around the corner!

I'd be so happy if the old style Chuck E Cheese was still around...unfortunately the video arcade is all but dead in this country. If a restaurant, chain or local I really don't care which, could recapture that early synthesis of food and arcade I dare say I would be overwrought with joy. Jillians never really cut it... especially when, right after opening, a friend of mine in college was told he would have to tuck in his shirt or leave...

Incredible Dave's

by Doug W » Mon Oct 01, 2007 1:33 pm

I happened to be there during their hearing before the Board of Zoning Adjustment.

The concept sounded to me like more like a Dave & Busters than a Chuck E. Cheese. The idea is to provide a place for the kids to play while still having food that will please parents. They will serve alcohol and have a "bar" area, although it will be a restaurant with a bar rather than a bar that serves food.

They will have rooms for private parties. While having they obligatory skee ball and whack-a-mole, they will also have an obstacle course type of thing, some kind a jumping area, as well as video games.

They will also have bowling. Real bowling- I can't remember how many lanes.

I live in the area and I have three kids. I'm looking forward to it. Several times during the hearing, they emphasized that the food is not an afterthought, but would be high quality and well thought out.

My kids are excited about it as well.

Cheers,

Doug.

It is going to be a concept similar to Dave and Buster's
It is called Incredible Dave's after the founder David Lawrence

Question is, will there be games worth playing for the over-8 crowd, and will they be properly maintained? Even Jillian's, the last time I bothered, had arcade machines with broken buttons and joysticks.

Dave W, you were at the BOZA hearing? Did you have a case? (Waves) I was sitting up there, and put forth the motion to grant Incrediable Dave's appeal of the previous staff determination. I had a few choice words off the record for staff on that case, too.

I heard the old Jillian's building was going to be some type of Family Adventure. They have signed a lease, but that is all I know.

BOZA

by Doug W » Tue Oct 02, 2007 2:20 pm

Ms. Stewart,

I did have a case - I didn't realize you were on the Board! I am involved with the new hospital being built in Old Brownsboro Crossing. We were seeking our Conditional Use Permit that day. We were after "Incredible Dave's". I think most of the controversial stuff was done by the time we were up.

Cheers,

Doug.

Yep, I'm actually Vice-Chair of BOZA. Doin' my civic duty for everyone who needs a variance, waiver, conditional use permit, or wants to appeal a zoning action/opinion.

Oh yes, I'm a techno-geek.

And now back to food.

Wow, Leah...A "Techno-geek" pastry chef. If that's not using both sides of your brain, I don't know what is. And people always think my background in M.I.S. and Human Resources is an odd combo...
