Late night dining?

by MichaelBolen » Tue Sep 06, 2011 10:59 pm

Where can one go for a nice meal after 11 pm on the weekend? Does Asiatique still do late night? I know Proof and Garage Bar do late night but where else besides chains and pizza? I recall blue lagoon or someone open late? And maybe mozz, social, or blind pig? Anyone recall? Im comimg to town after a long hiatus living in Florida. Any places serve food after 1 am?

There was a very informative recent post to this that I can't find on my phone, but there was a good response. My favorite and most unknown late night eatery is La Bodega near Bardstown and Bonnycastle. Best late night food in the city (in my heart).

This has become our go-to late night eatery. Note that they are on vacation this week.

Asiatique has a limited but tasty late night menu till one on weekends.
The Garage also has a limited late menu, but if by nice you mean upscale, it might not be what you are looking for.
Jack's Lounge serves a full menu till 11:30 on weekends.
Dargon King's Daughter, again not upscale but delicious, serves late too.

Hmm , what is the crowd like at Garage Bar on Fri and Sat? Is it sort of a "proof" esque crowd? We are looking for a sophisticated (not necessariliy upscale) place with well dressed people and well crafted beers, cocktails, and small plates. We will probably head out around 11 PM. Are there any other options for people in their late 20's early 30's? We have been out of the ville for some time now. We could also use some good "hipster" bar recs. What are places like Nachbar, Hammerheads, and Eiderdown like? Any other ideas on the late night food? I know there are more spots...

It's a great mix of people- it really is an old garage- tires on the wall etc, but a great bar with many interesting beers and the best non-alcohol selection in town. If it's a nice night the garage doors are opened and people spill out onto the astroturf covered lounging areas. Last Sat after midnight they offered only three pizzas so the selection isn't vast.
For a wider variety of small plates I would probably opt for Asiatique.

Hammerhead's and Eiderdown have great food and beer, but not much for cocktails (I think) and they seemed to clear out early (10pm or so), even on weekends, from my experience. 732 Social has fun cocktails and usually stays open late on weekends, but occasionally they close very early (trolley nights, I think?) on friday nights. Overall, I get very irritated with the lack of late night options. Even some of the places that promote themselves as "late night" will often give you nasty looks if you come in after 9pm on a saturday night.

Our older daughter and her husband went into a somewhat upscale restaurant recently at 9:00 pm to sit at the bar and look over the menu. They close at 11:00. Not open on Mondays. There were tables in there. But the owner turned them away.
They're going to give them another try because they live close by and had never been but.....
Last night after the football game, we stopped at FABD, but their kitchen closed at 11:00. There was still some alcohol consumption going on and beer is food :)

And it's the best time of the year for Varanese late-night dining.

TIP: Look over the menu, buy the specials. And have Rory make you a Bulleit Rye Manhattan first.
