Sala Thai

Anyone know what happened to Sala Thai?
I was disappointed to see that it has closed? Any chance that it relocated?

Whoa, that's news! I didn't know it was closed. It seemed popular, and certainly ranked among the best Thai spots in town. Some thought it was the best.

WHAT?!?!?! Oh my gosh, I'm having a meltdown here. I loved that place. Oh no, here comes the guilt - it has been awhile since I've been. Dangit!

Oops I forgot to post this. I heard a month ago that they were going to close for good because the owner/chef was tired. She couldnt get adequate help in the kitchen (meaning nobody could cook as well as she) and as a result was working too much, so, she decided to close it down. Thats what I heard from a couple of the other thai places. They are all friends I guess. I was told she was going to close next year rather than September so I put it on the back burner. Dont hate me, I never got to have a last hurrah either.

Thanks for letting me know. My husband and I loved that place so we figured there had to be a good explanation. I'm so sad to see it go though. So what is everyone's next favorite Thai? Is the one in St Matthews good? We tried Lemongrass Cafe and ordered off the Thai menu but weren't very impressed.

Thai Taste

by John Lisherness » Fri Sep 28, 2007 3:46 pm

I've sung the praises of Thai Taste here before.
When I posted their menu in my website, I had to resist correcting the menu's charming spelling and translation oddities I left them in as they are indicative of this spot's authenticity and charm.

I have to second the recommendation for Thai Taste.

And you really can't go wrong there if you like your Thai food to have some bite.

Hi Jessica! *waves*

I personally have to declare a three-way Thai tie (I know, I know) between Mai's Thai, Thai Taste, and Simply Thai. They're all pretty excellent and I'll usually just go to whichever one is closer depending on what part of town I'm already in.

DINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDING!!

And the lady with the corn wins the jackpot! :D

I do think Thai Cafe out in Holiday Manor Walk can be pretty good; Thai-Siam not, and I've never been able to warm up to Thai Smile 5. But your three picks are my three picks, Erin, with a slight nod to Thai Taste mostly just because it's the closest to me. (And the folks who run it are really nice, but of course, that's true of the others, too.)

Sala Thai is OPEN

by HollyR » Fri Sep 28, 2007 7:16 pm

I just posted this in a new topic, but Sala Thai is open as of Friday night and they have no idea where this misinformation came from. My boyfriend just went over to check it out, because they're one of our favorites.

Yippee...I get to keep my kanom jeeb. And the gravy noodles. And sticky rice. And...
