Thank You Chef Dallas! Theatersquare Marketplace

by Bonnie E. » Fri Aug 26, 2011 9:17 pm

Wow. Recently I saw Stephen D's post about Marketplace and asked if it would be okay as a family spot. My soon to be 17 year old chose it as his birthday dinner place. Chef McGarity was kind enough to post a welcoming response.

Disclaimer: I am a wife and mom. Not a food critic, chef or in the biz. BUT I have to give my take on Marketplace. I won't bore you with my lame descriptions of the food but I will encourage you to go here if you haven't been.

Our server was Jim. In talking with him, we learned he had only been there a week. He was very open with what he had and hadn't tried. Jim was great. There when we wanted him to be!

We started with Justin Hammond's recommendation of Trufffle Fries and Devilsh Eggs. Both were superb! I could have eaten the entire dish of fries, but had to share! The tomato jam with the eggs was great. I had Shrimp and Scallops, husband Filet of beef, daughter Oysters and son had the duck. We are sharerers, we all tasted everything. We all liked everything. Tie between the beef and oysters for favs. I have to say, I usually dislike duck. I find it fatty and "slimey" This duck was soooo good! Heck, I don't even like oysters and these were tender and crisp and not greasey, very light.

Jim brought the birthday boy tiramasu and girl had choc.mousse. Both were very good, nod going to the mousse.

Never before have I introduced myself to a chef. I felt I had to go say thanks to Chef Dallas. I then had to go nose around the entire place. It's big, and pretty and unique. A great evening.

Thank you, Chef Dallas.

Bonnie,

Thank you all for celebrating your son's birthday with us! It was a pleasure to cook for you guys and I was very happy you came and introduced yourself. Next time you are in say hi! It is refreshing to see a 17 year old order duck for an entree and a 14 year old order oysters! That's fantastic!
Hope to see you all again soon.

I've been late to post this but several of my wife's family were in town from Cincinatti for a wedding at the Henry Clay. Everyone was having such a good time that we wanted to hang out after the wedding. I immediately thought of Theater Square Marketplace being right around the corner. I walked over to see if we could get a large 16 top put together for us. It was no problem. We had awesome service from Matt F., and the food was fantastic. My wife's family were quite impressed with the atmoshpere, food and service. Thanks again guys for taking great care of us!

Dallas- it gets better all the time. I shared a great dinner tonight including the oysters and duck that Bonnie mentioned, the scallop and pork belly, and the truffled bianca pizza. Oh my heavens! We are counting the days until we come back.
And kudos to the staff that took such great care of us- especially Matt F and the lovely Kelly.

My husband and I were in Louisville, my home town, because he had a business meeting. I'd lost track of Chef Dallas since he left Volare and was delighted to see in the local entertainment paper (Leo, right?) that he was at Theater Square Marketplace. We stopped in to have a drink and say hi but the menu looked so good we stayed for dinner. Everything was excellent! We didn't back that trip but my sister and I hope to get up there soon, and that will definitely be on our agenda!

LEO Weekly, the Louisville Eccentric Observer. That was probably my review you saw. HotBytes provides the reviews for LEO and also The Voice-Tribune weekly in the East End.

Wow! Thank you all so much! We greatly appreciate it down here at Marketplace.
Don't forget to vote for us in the Leo Reader's Choice awards for outdoor dining! I really think that we have a beautiful spot.
