Wow. Recently I saw Stephen D's post about Marketplace and asked if it would be okay as a family spot. My soon to be 17 year old chose it as his birthday dinner place. Chef McGarity was kind enough to post a welcoming response.
Disclaimer: I am a wife and mom. Not a food critic, chef or in the biz. BUT I have to give my take on Marketplace. I won't bore you with my lame descriptions of the food but I will encourage you to go here if you haven't been.
Our server was Jim. In talking with him, we learned he had only been there a week. He was very open with what he had and hadn't tried. Jim was great. There when we wanted him to be!
We started with Justin Hammond's recommendation of Trufffle Fries and Devilsh Eggs. Both were superb! I could have eaten the entire dish of fries, but had to share! The tomato jam with the eggs was great. I had Shrimp and Scallops, husband Filet of beef, daughter Oysters and son had the duck. We are sharerers, we all tasted everything. We all liked everything. Tie between the beef and oysters for favs. I have to say, I usually dislike duck. I find it fatty and "slimey" This duck was soooo good! Heck, I don't even like oysters and these were tender and crisp and not greasey, very light.
Jim brought the birthday boy tiramasu and girl had choc.mousse. Both were very good, nod going to the mousse.
Never before have I introduced myself to a chef. I felt I had to go say thanks to Chef Dallas. I then had to go nose around the entire place. It's big, and pretty and unique. A great evening.
Thank you, Chef Dallas.
