Linnig family announces death of matriarch

by Robin Garr » Fri Aug 26, 2011 4:51 pm

From the family:

It is with great sadness that the Linnig family has lost their dearly beloved, Dorothy Linnig, co-owner of Mike Linnig's Restaurant - a Louisville icon. She died yesterday (Aug. 25) at the age of 85.

Dorothy was the wife of Bill Linnig (son of Mike Linnig). She has been president of the corporation since 1999. She worked tirelessly at the restaurant every day until the age of 78.

Her heart, soul and love for the restaurant will continue on through her children and grandchildren.

The establishment has been family owned and operated since 1925.

Our heart and prayers go to the Linnig family.

She and hers have brought so much, to so many, over so long.

I remember, as a child, going with my extended familly to Linning's. We'd get one of the shacks, for the adults and the kids would sit out at the benches.

The kids would just be kids- we'd run up to the flood-wall, playing, tumbling down and simply acting as children would until the call came...

'Dinner-time!'

We'd all give it the 'aww-shucks' and drag our feet back to 'camp,' wanting play more than sustenance. We'd hem and haw until we took that first bite of the fish sammich.

Then there'd be only silence.

Fitting.

I would guess that the family, which runs the Mike Linnig website, set it up specifically to notify people of the arrangements. Maybe I'm being too strict, Art, but that seemed a little inappropriate.

Ah. I see. Maybe someone attached to the family is a computer wiz. Anyway, my condolences to the family.
