Does Cafe Lou Lou take reservations?

by Jennie Mulhall » Fri Sep 28, 2007 11:05 am

I'm heading over to Cafe Lou Lou next Friday night with some friends to celebrate my birthday. I'm excited as I've not been to the new location yet.
My only worry is the wait at 7:30 on a Friday night.
Do they take reservations? :D

Yes, they do take reservations. Reservations can either be made by phone or online here: http://opentable.com/start.aspx?m=43 as a matter of fact we're going there tomorrow evening!

I would recommend some ear plugs. That new place they are in is extremely loud. We now call it Cafe Loud-Loud. It reminds me of a sports bar these days. The clientele did a 180 in the move. A bunch of pretentious yuppies going on about nonsense. Well the pretense was always there it just changed. ha! Lou Lou lost its charm in my book. Of course I really dont have a problem with the restaurant itself. Service was very kind and accomodating. Food was same as always but it's not my crowd anymore nor is it good for my ears.

We went there with ourr church band last Sunday (10 of us) I loved the new place, especially the parking! Service was terrific. The polenta appetizer was awesome! The only complaint I had was the mussels appetizer had some of the tiniest mussels I've seen. Sometimes when you popped open a shell, there were just strands there. The largest ones were about the size of a thumbnail. Really disappointing. I'd complain to my seafood distributor....
Overall, though, everyone really enjoyed the meal and experience.

Yes, we do take reservations (and you'll need one, at 7:30 on a Friday!).

Sound baffles have been hung in strategic places along the ceiling within the last two weeks, and acoustics have shown some definite improvement.

I haven't noticed any preponderance of yuppies - I actually thought the average age of the crowd had increased about 10 or 15 years since we moved, John!

That's probably a good thing, although I'm sticking with what I said in my review: "It can be deafeningly loud at times, but it’s a happy noise, a festive roar that lets you know everyone’s having a blast. As long as you don’t have a quiet romantic dinner or a serious conversation in mind, this is not a bad thing."

I would have to agree. It seemed to me that moving out to St. Matthews made Cafe Lou Lou much more accessible to an older community than artsy Clifton, and every time I've been in, I'd say that it's looked like an excellent mix of demographics, with plenty of gray hair in evidence as well as a younger set.

I have to disagree. If those baffles show an improvement I would hate to see what it was before? I saw those little white baffles and was baffled at the noise level. I did see that there was an older crowd but a very distictive yuppie class. I guess it depends on your definition of yuppie and the time of day you go. I was there sort of late though.

I never read your review.........See this is where I take the "Bourdain" view. Robin says what's above and I say it reminded me of a sports bar. :P
