What should I try at Blue Dog for tapas?

by Adam C » Thu Aug 25, 2011 2:14 pm

I am going there for the first time tomorrow (STOKED!) and I was wondering from all the forum peeps what are the must haves. Tapas, beer, wine, whatever. Give me the goods! Cheers!

ALL of it! Everything on it! Did you catch my review? It was back in April, and I expect there have been seasonal changes, but I'm not kidding, you can just point to the menu and be happy.

It IS worth noting that the pizzas come out of their awesome Llopis wood-burning bread oven from Barcelona, so if you like Blue Dog bread, you'll probably like Red Hog at Blue Dog pizza.

But really, just pick anything that sounds good to you, and I'm pretty sure you'll be pleased. Enjoy!

I had a bruschetta with octopus and smoked paprika. I still think about it.

Everything.

Literally. We've had everything on the menu.

The only thing even approaching "not excellent" is the Sardine and Hummus, which I thought was incredible, but seemed texturally a problem for some people I've taken there.

The pear / manchego / ham / wildflower honey is the best thing on the menu, IMO, as long as you try to first, before all the other things can overpower it.

We were there last night and I had the panzanella salad and the escargot. It was the best escargot I've had - ever. It was served in a small cast iron pot with melted garlic butter, a little melted cheese and bacon. There was bread around the pot. It was fantastic.

Blue Dog closing for two-week summer vacation

by Robin Garr » Sat Aug 27, 2011 4:30 pm

Sadly for all whose taste buds have been whetted by this discussion, Blue Dog (including Red Hog Tapas and all its bread-making operations) will be closed from Aug. 30 (which would be their next open day after tonight) until they reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Hurry back, folks!

I was very tempted (VERY) just to go ahead and order one of every montidito and a few items from every other section of the menu (like a Viking smorgasbord victory feast). It was a birthday celebration and I was ready to splurge.

Pork cheek tacos, the octopus, the chicken livers, I can't even remember all of it. It just kept on coming and I kept on feeling the awesome. Great spot. Louisville is lucky to have places this good.
