Does anyone know if anything is going to take the place of Brendan's in St. Matthews? It is such a neat old bar atmosphere.

I didn't know it was closing. There were people in there just the other day when I drove by. What's the story?

I receive a weekly "beer update" e-mail from the Shea's family pubs. It lists the new beers to be tapped that week. I check the last three weeks e-mails. Brendan's was listed on the August 8th and August 15th e-mail specials. It was NOT listed in the August 22 listing. I checked Facebook and could not find their Brendan's page. The Flanagan's Facebook page is still there.

Did Drake's kill it?

Too many similar places in one block?

I'd say that both of these statements are accurate. Only so many places that a singular clientele can spend their money TH-S.

It seems like a great opportunity for an upscale wine/tapas type place...or anything with a chef for that matter. I'm not sure I'd open a bar food concept there - for obvious reasons. Quite a bit of income in that area (Indian Hills/St. Matts/Crescent Hill all sort of come together there) but mostly casual fare. We'll have to see what happens. Anyone know who owns the building? Is it O'Shea's?

Whatever opens, I hope it is food driven. The kitchen was visible when entering though the back door and it never looked good. It was never a place I ever thought about eating in.

I hope someone can turn it around and make it a great restaurant; a gastro pub would be a nice addition to the area. NAX or Bank St #2, anyone?

Someone told me yesterday that this is the group coming to the Brendan's location: http://tinroofbars.com/Home/Lexington
I was hoping for Tapas too!

I never really liked the layout of the place nor the back entrance. Parking wasn't easy either.

As for the Molly's, I've always found that place to be oddly sparse, and, in a way, incomplete. Just seemed like a rush job to get it open. Haven't been in awhile, so maybe it is different now.

With increased competition, these early arrivals to the block would have had to step-up their game.

As far as I'm concerned, I'd be fine with going back in time 5-7 years, when it was just a few hole-in-the-walls and the BBC. Minus the BW3, of course. Maybe just a corner park or something in that space.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

So much for food driven; that is most boring menu I've seen in a long time.
