Yet another reason to buy local products.

I will not knowingly put any food from China into my mouth.

And we do buy local honey. There's a guy who lives on Lower River Road near the Greenbelt Hwy. He keeps bees and puts bottles of honey on his front porch. It's on the honor system. You puts your money in a slot, and you takes your honey.

Paul's generally carries several local varieties. There's a guy near Ballard High School who raises bees and at one time his honey was at Paul's on 22 - it's been about a year since I last checked.

Thanks for posting. I'll be honest, I've been guilty of buying my honey at Kroger. I think I'm slow to this whole food game, I just started going to the farmer's market a few weeks ago. But I know where my next stop at the Farmer's Market is next week.
I never can help but think that all the stuff in food could possibly be the cause for Autism. Having a child with that, you can't help but obsess about the causes. I believe that it's got some genetic components with an environmental trigger. We've been trying to eat a lot less processed foods, and I've given up (almost totally) artificial sweetners. I think it would be better for me to have real sugar if i just have to have something. I'm even buying breads, etc. with no HFCS. You just have to wonder if there's metal and all those hormones in everything we're eating..it has to effect something.

In the agricultural products section at the state fair they have honey for sale from local producers. I have many varieties including flavored spun honey which is wonderful on toast! When we were there last week they even had the national "Honey Queen" there! You can also sampled each honey to see which you prefer, it's amazing the difference in taste between the different producers.

Honey flavor varies hugely based on what flowers the bees are getting their pollen from. If you have an opportunity to taste honeys side-by-side like this, it can be very eye-opening experience- I highly recommend. Differences across different parts of the country/world are even more unique- ie mesquite honey from Arizona or lavender honey from France. Our all-time favorite is Tupelo honey that we buy in Florida outside Destin.

Another advantage of local honey: Some people believe (very strongly ) that eating local honey reduces your sensitivity to pollen, and dramatically improves seasonal allergy symptoms over the long- run. I just know that it tastes great. :D

This is my Sweetie's sincere belief as well.

Heine Bros. - at least Frankfort Avenue, and I assume all of them - sells local honey, usually from a tray near the cash register.

There is a guy that sells honey at the farmer's market in Norton Commons. Prices were very good and it's one of my favorites. I've been using it in my tea of late and we give honey to our dogs on a regular basis in oatmeal. I really like a wildflower I get in Asheville, NC but the stuff from this guy is pretty similar in taste and color.

I picked up some buckwheat honey from the bee lady at Findlay Market up in cinci. It's probably my favorite honey that I've tried. Gonna need to either find some local or head back up there.

My favorite is Spille's honey from Morning View KY. It's very pale , almost the color of parchment but very very good. And the honey here from some local Crestwood farm is my second favorite.
