How anyone can drink ANY mass-produced swill is beyond me. There are more good beers out there that I'd like to try than I'll ever get to in my life time.

I have often wondered about this, and the only explanation I can come up with is that if you want the alcohol and don't cara about the taste (or even don't LIKE the taste of beer), then industrial beers give the most bang for the buck.

As strange as it may seem, most folks actually like the taste of these mass produced beers.

Dean Corbett is on record in this very forum saying that he enjoys an cold Bud Light. I wouldn't presume to convince him that he doesn't understand what tastes good.

Is Shiner Bock considered mass produced swill? I happen to like to taste of Shiner Bock. Maybe there are people who like the taste of Budweiser.

The arrogance & attitude that many of the craft beer people display on this forum gets very annoying at times.

Just because some people don't agree with you does not mean there is something that is wrong with them.

I've enjoyed Shiner Bock, but haven't had any for years.

Could be, although I'm not kidding - and I hope I'm not being arrogant, I don't mean it so - when I say that I think most people like the "mild" taste (okay, I didn't say "lack of " taste), the light buzz, and the relatively low price. That's fair enough, although it's not my way.

May I gently point our our recent conversation about chains? In all fairness, I think you're turning up the brightness and contrast a little when you declare the entire forum anti-chain and anti-big-beer as if it defines us. Yeah, Roger's shtick is "death to chains and to the beer barons," but hey, it's a shtick ...

First, let me mention that I, personally, am very particular about the beer that I purchase, and much prefer to drink craft beer, usually high-gravity, as I am brutish and delicate subtleties are lost on me.

I also prefer to dine at local establishments as opposed to chains, primarily for quality reasons, but also because I care about supporting my local community. That said, I do dine at the occasional chain, and if somebody offers me a cold bud light on a hot day, 9 times out of 10 I am going to accept it.

Now that this is out of the way, I find myself often rolling my eyes at the general sentiments of this board. "If someone doesn't like what I like, then they are either: wrong, stupid, inferior, less-cultured, blah blah blah..."

I also don't understand why Roger's "schtick" is acceptable and cute, where as someone like Brian Curl's is not accepted.

They both come across as sophomoric, closed-minded, and primarily here to rile everyone up. The sad thing is, I agree with much of what Roger says (Che Guevera wallets and other spoiled-college-freshman-with-a-chip-on-his-shoulder memes aside), but his presentation of said beliefs makes me want to grab a homophobic chicken sandwich and wash it down with an Old Milwaukee(for which I still have a soft spot from my college days).

Bud Light Hotel ? I've seen a Hooters Airline and Casino. I just wonder what the world would be like if this all played out. Bud Light Cruise Ships? Resorts? They will test market anything.

Could not disagree more with that comparison!
Roger puts his money where his mouth is by operating NABC and is a passionate writer for local businesses. http://louisvillebeer.com/2011/07/intro ... ebeer-com/
Pointing out better local beer is often misunderstood as "arrogance."

(The other person mentioned is on suspension for repeated provocative language on the forums and ignoring gentle warnings from our host to stop that behavior,)

Wow, from the subject header I thought it was an announcement for an episode of "Celebrity Death Match".

Interesting article, would be even more interesting for a bunch of people to go up with coolers full of bottled regional micros and wander the public areas all weekend sipping from them.

I've had Bud Light and almost certainly will again depending on other opportunities in a given situation. I can enjoy a Sacher torte at one time, a Hostess cupcake at another and still know the difference.

The operative word to me in a lot of the posts so far is "cold". The inferior flavor of industrial beer and the better flavor of (most, not all to me) craft beer tends to be masked at very low temperatures. I wonder if there'd be a faster growth in sales of the good stuff if bars served all beers at a higher temperature to level the flavor field.

Really. Do people often write you privately to tell you things about the forum? Interesting. I would have thought they would contact the management, just as we advise people to do in a restaurant setting.

Frankly, the various "schticks" around here don't bother me a whole lot and certainly not to the point of sending PMs or tattling to Food Dad....well, maybe an occasional FB post :P If I did find them getting to the point of being bothersome/annoying, I'd probably be more inclined to address it directly with the individual.

That's what I guess I'm getting at. There are far more efficient and cheaper ways to get your buzz on than drinking 12 oz after 12 oz of watery alcohol with little to no taste. Why not get a slushie and empty a pint of Everclear into it? You'd certainly have more flavor. :D

And sometimes people just like stuff they're used to, stuff they've grown up with or been consuming for years. I love to grill really good natural-casing brats at home, but I also happily eat the bland little dollar hot dogs at Slugger Field on the promo nights. I love the little Totino's pizza rolls and indulge in them every time my wife's out of town, even though they aren't anywhere near as flavorful as a pizza from Coals.

I don't care much for Bud et al. myself, but taste is a funny thing. Sometimes the reason people drink stuff is just because they like it - because they just do - and that's OK with me. It's no skin off my nose if they drink and enjoy Bud or even Keystone. Screaming "Death to Chains!" is just dumb, even if you prefer non-chain food and drink.
