Fascinating, although Homemade is pretty run of the mill ice cream. Seems successful so far with expansion...
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

I personally think that HICPK has some very good ice cream including some very unique flavors. Their Milky Way flavor is certainly wonderful. I also think their price point and their many specials will certainly help them do good business in this location! I really don't think they are opening there to force Comfy Cow's hand, is just a logical area for them to place another store. With everything going on in the area I certainly think there's room for both of them. The unfortunate thing is it looks like they're both going to miss the peak summer season for ice cream business in the new locations.

Yeah, I think Comfy Cow will easily capture the "gourmet" market in that competition. I like HICPK pretty well ... I thought they slipped after the ownership change and quick expansion, but to their credit, they listened to consumers and brought quality back. The Cow, however, is something really special, and if this is to be a competition at all, it will bear on price for those who prefer not to pay a premium for quality.

The wife is willing to help build the Comfy Cow if it means she can get the Strawberry ice cream they make sooner than later....

Interestingly enough, a representative for the HPK has just been to A.J.'s. She heard I was looking for an ice cream supplier. She dropped off some samples and was very pleasant. She claimed that the Clifton venture was extremely hush hush around the office!!!

It's so hush-hush that the Longshot closing and HPK opening is in the CJ features/Velocity section this am.

I agree that HMICPK went downhill as they expanded. They finally seem to have righted the ship, but I'm sorry, on it's best day ever HMICPK's ice cream wasn't as good as CC's is everyday.

I'm crossing my fingers that the same expansion slide doesn't happen to CC. I don't think my fragile psyche could handle that loss.

Ditto. That said, remember that HMICPK's slide was concurrent with new ownership that brought in a new dream, and perhaps saw a different path to that dream. And, fortunately, was bright enough to listen to the consumers before the slide got out of control. Comfy Cow, as far as I know, remains firmly in the hands of the two creative guys who came up with the concept.
