Swung by El Sabor de Cuba today for a quick lunch on the run - had a very good, extremely pressed Cuban sandwich that was pretty much good for two meals. A footlong sandwich, crispy, melty, gooey - all the things a Cubano should be - for $5. By 'extremely pressed' I mean it was close to a flatbread sandwich, but it was definitely very tasty.
Two options were available for the Cubano - a 'traditional' one with ham, swiss cheese, mustard, and pickle on buttered and pressed Cuban bread for $5 (that was the one I ordered), and a second one 'media luna' that also had roasted pork on it in addition to the other items on the first one for $7.50.
The menu has quite a few items on it, including:
Vaca Frita (who doesn't love fried cow?) - $9.49
Ropa Vieja - $9.99
Enchilado (stew) with either shrimp or lobster - both $9.99
Several fish dishes - from $7.49 to $14.99
Rotisserie chicken - $8.49
Fried chicken - $7.49
and quite a few others.
Appetizers like shrimp cocktail, croquetas, empanadas, a shrimp ceviche, and several others were also available, all in the $3.99 to $6.99 range.
They have a beer license, so a few brands of bottled suds were available (I remember seeing Corona, Becks, and Coors) as well as Latin sodas and stuff.
A brightly colored place, very similar to Mr. Pollo (I forgot to ask if they were connected in any way), very clean, with some slightly too loud Latin music in the background. A little off the road in a 3 store strip mall, so it isn't the easiest place to find on a drive by - use the Fishery as a landmark - El Sabor is almost directly across Outer Loop from it, hidden behind the lube place.
Definitely worth a stop if you happen to be on that end of town.
Only half the sandwich survived the drive home, but this is what it looked like:
