by Tommy Walters » Sun Aug 07, 2011 12:44 am

I'm sorry to announce:

Tonight was Staxx Roadhouse in Louisvilles last night.........We are closed!!!!!!
I made every mistake possible and only have myself to blame.......
It is a fantastic location and a wonderful facility............

I want to thank our staff.....

I also want to thank Robin Garr for not printing the review had he dined with us on night that was far from perfect......

Staxx BBQ in Frankfort is going strong.....

We are a few weeks away from opening Furlongs in it's original location on Main Street in Lexington!!!!!!!

Louisville......I will be back with either the Original Furlongs, Staxx BBQ or another concept I'm working on.....

Never had opportunity to go to Staxx (was closed at lunch during time I tried to go), but I would disagree that it is a good location.

If you are going east on Shelbyville Rd., it is awful trying to cross the road against traffic and I can see many simply avoiding situation. If you are coming west on Shelbyville, not easy to see until you are almost on turnoff. Bottom line, it seems to work more as a destination place, rather than something you would spontaneously drop by based on visual.

Also, the parking lot is small and probably gets some Qdoba overflow. I know this as I park in the shopping center next to Qdoba when I need to pick up lunch during the workweek.

One weakness I see on East End dining in general is you really need to plan to go to one particular restaurant due to the distance between spots and lack of street parking. My wife and I often park on Bardstown/Frankfort (or just off on side street), walk around and then just pick a place to eat on the fly, often based on sight or smell of food. That is basically impossible on East End. While I love suburban living for many reasons, dining is more of a trip closer to town for us if we want something fun and unexpected. Otherwise, East End is fine, but you really need to know beforehand, both what you are having and why. All that makes it a tougher task for a new spot in a hard to access place to succeed. It can be done, but swimming against the tide.

Good luck on next ventures.

Open Table has been of tremendous benefit in that I can peruse almost all the cool places to eat before I even get in the car.

Too bad. I thought you were killing it. Seemed always to be really busy. The times I tried to eat there, it was too busy to get in. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Actually during the evening periods it works the other way around. I think many people parking in the Qdoba parking lot to go to Staxx, especially during the happy hour. The parking probably beneficial to both. I said we do agree with you about access in and out of however.

I'm surprised also, went this past winter and there was a 30 min wait and that's a big restaurant. Food was good.
