Back to school time - BBQ 101 (reprise) and Tailgating 201

by Steve P » Thu Aug 04, 2011 11:10 am

For those of you looking to add a couple of classes next semester, come on down to Cooking at the Cottage for the next two classes in the "01" series:

BBQ 101 - The Art of Low and Slow BBQ. Thursday Sept 8th: A reprise of last months sold out class. Come on down, we'll show ya how The Rolling Bones "roll". We'll be feedin' ya some "Rockin' Good" BBQ and we guarantee you won't go away hungry...Pulled Pork, Baby Back Ribs, Beef Brisket, two kinds of slaw, some ROCKIN' Mac Salad, Baked Beans and a Peach Crisp dessert. We're just gonna steam roll ya.

Tailgating 201 - Livin' Large in the Parking Lot. Tuesday Sept 13th (the week before the UofL-UK game). Tailgating WAY beyond Subway sandwiches and cold fried chicken. We're still working up the menu but I promise we're going to be in the "Red Zone" all night for this one and you will NOT go away scoreless. Wear your team colors and come watch from the 50 yard line as we put together a "drive" of appetizers, entrees and desserts you'll be proud to serve at your next (at) home or away "tailgate" party.

Give 'em a call at Cooking at the Cottage to sign up for these (and other !!) great classes:

502-893-6700 3739 Lexington Rd. Louisville, Ky 40207

The food sounds amazing! Do you get a full meal with the class or is this just a tasting of each? What's the class cost? The web site doesn't list this class but presumably a phone call would answer the last question. Finally, is the class BYOB?

Shane,

The BBQ class was actually TWO meals...plus appetizers and dessert. No one went away hungry, I can promise you that.

The Tailgating class, as we have it planned right now, will feature at least one full entree' (with sides) plus lots and LOTS of little morsels, tidbits and samples...Including samples of two "brunch" entrees which we are pretty proud of. In a nut shell our approach to this is to show you as many cool little tailgate recipes as we can in the allotted time. I'll have the menu complete by tonight and after running it by Linda will post it here.

The classes are not yet on the website schedule, I just felt like posting something here to give Hotbyters a chance to get in (early) on the fun. I'm not sure what they are charging...Mongo only pawn in game of life, so you'll have to call The Cottage for those details.

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to sample a slice of Wildcat Phattie this past weekend at Brownsboro Hardware's Big Green Eggfest. The phattie was awesome. It was perfectly cooked. I loved the combination of the sausage and hash browns. I made sure to pass on the kudos and was told it was going to be a part of this class. I hope to be able to attend at least one of these.

I signed up early and a friend just signed up today and was told there were only four more slots left! Planning a quick stop at the BBC for a beverage to get the mind and the palate properly conditioned before the BBQ
