The Cookout Routine

by Steve P » Wed Aug 03, 2011 1:09 pm

I was doing a little research for a cooking class I'll be teaching next month and ran across this little ditty. I'm reposting it here as a public service for those who might just be getting into the routine of outdoor cooking... <please note winky emoticon thingie>

"We are about to enter the BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity. When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:

Routine…
The woman buys the food.
The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert.
The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill – beer in hand.
The woman remains outside the compulsory three meter exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman.
Here comes the important part:
THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.
The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.
The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he flips the meat
Important again:
THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.
The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table.
After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.
And most important of all:
Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts.
The man asks the woman how she enjoyed ‘her night off.’ And, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there’s just no pleasing some women."

LOL, good stuff. Just got back from my honeymoon, and let me tell you, a good one of them thar women things are good to have around!!! Yeah, she will bring me a beer, if I ask nicely  , but I do all the grocery shopping and cooking, she does the cleaning. It works for us. So if you want a good one, don't treat her like that. It was funny, and not uncommon, but not a way to treat a lady if you want to keep her!!!

Yeah, I do the grilling and the rest of the stuff inside the house too. And on the rare occasions when DH does grill something...I am basically the one doing it because I have to guide the process.

That sounds pretty accurate for our house. I'd say I got short changed, but he did change some really nasty diapers today and has even taken on a few feedings so I can get some sleep. We are only on day 3 but hopefully it holds out!
