I had one of the most amazing dining experiences I've had in quite some time last week at The Pamplemousse Grille. Easy to find off the 5 in Solana Beach across from the Del Mar racetrack. They even have a parking lot. Upscale but casual and they have a nice bar. This place serves seriously good food. I made same day reservations on Open Table.

For a good comfort food breakfast you have to try Kona's. It's right on the Pacific Beach boardwalk. Extremely popular..line goes out the door, but goes quickly.

We got back 2 weeks ago from a business\vacation visit.

Troy was very helpful in his suggestions and we found a few places that were worth the trip depending on where you are located. We were in the Solana Beach area and found some good to outstanding places in the area.

Two observations: We found we spent at least 30 minutes driving to anywhere outside Solana Beach, but that's California. Our restaurants here hold up extraordinarily well as we've discovered and confirmed from all of our travels.

Enjoy, beautiful views and unbelievable weather.

Ah, it's okay. Now that it has momentum, let 'er rip.

After the discussion has run its course, if I remember, I can move it over to the Travel Forum then for later reference.

Get a burrito at Taco Surf... or any random burrito place you see.

When I first moved there (lived in SD for a year) I ate a burrito every day for 30-40 days... I don't think I ever had a bad one. I recommend the California Burrito.

"Roy's Hawaiin Fusion" in the large Marriott hotel on Harbor Drive. It's a chain, but very good. My wife ate everything on her plate and that's saying something.

Croce's in the Gaslamp District.

It's owned by Jim Croce's widow and is a little bit of a tourist trap because there is various memorabilia scattered throughout the restaurant.

But the food is great and the atmosphere is nice. They also have outside dining.

Fred,
My husband and I moved to San Diego and have been living here for about a year. May I suggest two restaurants depending on where you are staying. The first is in the Gaslamp area called Searsucker. The other is in Del Mar called Burlap. Chef Brian Malarkey is the brain behind both. They both have websites. I would recommend reservations for both. Good luck getting into Burlap because it is new and people have been flocking there. Chef Malarkey is the current hot San Diego chef. Enjoy your trip!
