To our Las Gorditas faithful patrons

by Pat Costas » Wed Jul 13, 2011 10:05 pm

Hi everyone! This is Pat Costas from Las Gorditas. Thank you all so very much for your patronage over the past few years. We have been fairly successful thanks to you. However, don't worry we are going to continue to serve the same delicious food as always. The problem is we are going to have to juggle locations. The health department told us we could stay at watterson trail and bardstown road one more weekend and then we need to move to a new location for 14 days. Then, I am not sure as yet but we may have to move again for another 14 days, then we can go back to our original spot and do it all over again. Oh well I guess rules are rules. Look us up on facebook or here and we can let you know where we will be for that weekend. I would hate for anyone to miss a meal. Have a great evening folks. Suggestions on a location would be much appreciated.

Pat, sorry to hear of the complications. Selfishly, I like you at your current spot since I only live two miles away.

Not sure if you have been on the site here much lately but there are a growing number of mobile food vendors. They've been working with the city government to update the regulations. I'm not sure if that includes the requirement to only be able to stay at one location for 14 days.

Personally, I don't understand since you are on private property and have the permission of the owner of the property.

Probably would be a good idea to meet and get to know some of the other mobile food vendors as they are working together to promote the concept and having events together. (See Food Truck Ruckus topic in thus forum).

Good luck and I love your food.

Hmmmmm...

Maybe it is my inner conspiracy theorist, but does anyone else find it strange that the Health Dept. is just now deciding to enforce its "14 day / location" policy on Las Gorditas. They've been in that same parking lot for over 3-4 years, without a problem. I wonder if the growth of the food truck industry locally has actually hurt the Gordita trailer...or maybe somebody dropped a dime!

Either way, I love the Eastland location, b/c it is close to me. Best of luck Pat...please let us know where you'll be located.

Thanks. DD

I was having similar thoughts Derrick. They've been there over 3yrs, do not bother anyone and add to and fit into the community.

It doesn't make sense that they need to move every 14 days because of some archaic ordinance.

Especially since it is on private property and he pays rent to the shopping center (he told me this). Just doesn't make sense.

Maybe we should call the Mayors office and voice are concerns like Matt from the food truck did, more calls never hurt. . .

They are now enforcing it because a certain someone complained. All we can do is follow the rules, and hope for the best. The complainant will be trying to move into that spot as soon as we are gone.

If it is one of the Food Truck owners that comes on here, this is not going to help their image when they show up at that spot. . .

Yeah, I'd like to know who turns up in that spot, too.

They won't be there for long, the owner now has to go thru me seeing as I lease that piece of asphalt. Even if I can only be there once in awhile I will continue to rent the space

Please, Pat and/or fellow forumites, let me know who shows up there. Not only will I NEVER patronize them at that location or any other location, I'd be willing to organize a boycott via facebook. Las Gorditas was "food truck when food truck wasn't cool" (at least in these parts). They put out an outstanding product at a great price and they do things the right way. The thought of someone complaining about them to gain some sort of competitive advantage quite frankly pisses me off.

Todd, I share your sentiments. If it doesn't come out, I'll not patronize any of the other food trucks on the chance that they are the culprit. I can stick with Las Gorditas and be perfectly happy knowing they were a victim of the "food truck" revolution in Louisville.

I hope the food truck businesses will be able to sniff out who did this and speak up.

Wonderful! I'm glad it will backfire on them!

I think if members of the forum ever find out who was behind it the instigator will certainly regret it and probably lose a majority of their business! I hope they also will no longer be welcome to be part of the rotation at the Park Federal Credit Union! Pat was certainly the leader of this revolution for Louisville and had been quietly providing great food without stirring up government action. It's a shame that somebody else decided to cry about him not having to follow the rules that were being placed about others.

I am waiting on a call back from the owners of Coxs Smokers Outlet to see if they will allow me to set up by them. Hopefully they say yes. It is the same parking lot but different owners.

A reliable source told me that the reason the health department was complained to was the meat cutter and the owner of Mi Preferida want to use the trailer they now set up elsewhere until they open a Taqueria inside Mi Preferida. They told my source that we are hurting their chance of being successful so they need to shut us down. How dare they. What ever happened to a little good ol competition?

When the competition gets stiff, just call the authorities, I guess.
