Anybody else tried Ken-Tex Barbeque in Shelbyville?

by Brian Taylor Clark » Wed Jul 06, 2011 9:04 pm

We had them do the food at my Dad's 60th last month and I was thoroughly impressed. We bought brisket and ribs for 40 people, and they delivered it right before the party. The owner was a genuinely nice guy, who was passionate about his product, and it showed. They both were delivered dry, with a large container of both mild and hot to choose from. The hot sauce was perfect, had plenty of bite, while retaining that great b-bque flavor.
The brisket was excellent. Not overcooked, with just the perfect amount of smoke penetration into it. The ribs turned out great as well. "Not" falling off the bone, alot of meat on each one, and again the perfect amount of smoke.
I don't exactly where they are located, as they were recommended to us, we called, and they delivered heaven, but I'm definitely going to make a trip out to Shelbyville soon!

Oh, yeah! Love that place and often drop in when I'm out that way. I don't know the exact address, but if you get off at the East Shelbyville exit and head north toward the city, it's only a couple of hundred yards north of the Interstate on the right.

Exit 35, Hwy 53. Probably less than half a mile on the right. Bright yellow building. (My parents live off that exit!)

Used to eat there all the time when I worked in Shelbyville. Friends who still live/work there swear by it, and we ate there 2 weekends ago on the way to check out all the oddness at the Renfaire in Eminence. Dunno how an expert would grade them out, but I think it is some damn fine BBQ.

Exit 35 off of I-64 (KY 53 aka Mount Eden Road)

Address is:
1163 Mt. Eden Rd.,
Shelbyville, KY 40065

Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

It has been awhile since I've had the ribs, but I think Ken Tex has some of the best brisket available in the area (still haven't made it to Texicans...but they are on my shirt list).

I syncronize returns from Lexington around Ken-Tex's open hours.

Agree completely on the brisket- wonderful stuff. It's a family operation and very pleasant to visit, as well.

Derrick, move Texicans up on your list. IMHO, it's best brisket around. Ken Tex's is good, but Texicans is better. Ken Tex has a little better pork, though.
My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

I am so glad to hear it's not a secret, as it fits the bill perfectly for a mini foodie road trip cruise :D
