Shoney's rolls out new look at new East End location

by Robin Garr » Wed Jul 06, 2011 4:07 pm

Saturday, July 9, so is the latest location in the A new Shoney’s restaurant will open Saturday, July 9, at 9921 Ormsby Station Road, with a grand-opening jubilee for the public at 11 a.m.

Visitors are invited to try some of Shoney’s menu items amid entertainment for children and adults alike.

To celebrate the opening, Shoney’s franchisee Oscar Parker will make a charitable donation to the Lyndon Fire Department, YMCA of Greater Louisville and Neighborhood House.

This will be Parker's third Shoney’s in the area.

Coincidentally, according to a news release, the Shoney’s chain is Starting Fresh (a term that they have actually sought to ™ trademark!) with new leadership, a new corporate executive chef, a new menu and, they say, "a whole new attitude."

According to the news release, "Executive Chef Will Eudy, whose career expertise was cultivated through working at five-star restaurants all over the nation, has introduced a new menu of mouthwatering recipes. Eudy happily took on his current position with Shoney’s to whip up recipes from one of his favorite food genres – comfort food. And now, Parker’s Louisville restaurant implements the new prototype for future Shoney’s restaurants."

Finally, this Shoney’s location will offer $5.99 weekday specials.

Shoney's and mouthwatering should not be mentioned in the same sentence - make it paragraph.

I went there Saturday with my son after baseball practice. We both wanted breakfast and was sucked in by a dancing bear on the sidewalk. The interior is really nice and comfortable. The service was very good as was the food. We only had breakfast food but it was executed very well.

My first job in high school was bussing tables at Shoney's (it was called Danner's at the time). I worked for them off and on for years, and I met my wife when we both worked at Shoney's. For nostalgia's sake, I hope they can get it together.

My last trip to a Shoney's was the one on Eastern Parkway. It was nasty! If I wasn't in a hurry, I would have not eaten my food and asked for my money back. Although I was the only one there, it took ages for me to get my food as well. I wonder if that has to do with why my food was way overcooked...

But I am willing to try the new one...I heard from a friend who lives near the Eastern Parkway location (too late, alas) that it has a reputation for being nasty.

Now the Denny's on Eastern Parkway is good- friendly service, love the rolls (at first I thought Robin meant rolls as in bread, but I couldn't make the syntax work!)
