Frozen yogurt bars

by MarieP » Thu Jun 30, 2011 8:10 am

What are the frozen yogurt bars that are open or coming soon to Louisville? I know of Cefiore (have not been there yet- need to go sometime!), Menchie's soon to open in Shelbyville Road Plaza, and one that a friend of mine went to that is across from a Chick-fil-a, but she doesn't know the name. And she doesn't know which Chick-fil-a either- she is blind and she couldn't tell where she and her aunt went, her aunt just said, "we're going to go get some yogurt" and blackberries was one of the toppings of choice....so I gotta know, lol,

There is a place at the Summit called 32 Degrees. It's decent, but IMO, overpriced. I got a very small serving of yogurt put on a couple pumps of caramel and 1 spoonful of english walnuts and my price was $4+ for the serving. I could have bought an entire carton of ice cream and toppings, rather than a 1 time serving. But then again, I'd gladly pay $3something for comfy cow. But that place puts me in ice cream nirvana, 32 degrees did not.
And the place across from the Chik Fil A has been closed for several years, but they still have the signs on the building, so perhaps that's what your friend was talking about.

The across-from-CFA place was called Twisters, and it was frozen custard, not yogurt. It was on Westport out in the Springhurst area.

I actually really like 32 Degrees in the Summit. I didn't think it's really any more expensive than other places and I think the quantity and quality of the toppings offered is far superior. We recently tried Sweet CeCe's (sp?) and we were not fans. We tasted a few flavors and ended up leaving without any yogurt. I thought it had a consistency vaguely reminiscent of glue.

There are supposed to be 3 Orange Leaf locations coming to Louisville. People in Lexington love the place. They love it so much that when I attempted to try it, it was so packed that I just walked out.

These places take levels of analysis and self-control I do not possess. They give you an oversized empty tub, allow you to serve yourself, and then weigh the damage at the end.

I'll stick with Graeter's which takes my order and then keeps me from damaging both my pocketbook and my health too extensively.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

My sister (in Tucson) raves about Orange Leaf. They also have one called the Blue Banana that she also loves. I guess I just thought the consistency of the yogurt was a bit watery at 32 degrees. I understand its not the same as ice cream, maybe it was just a bad day, or the wrong kind of yogurt.

It was 32 Degrees. Will have to try it sometime, or just go to Menchie's when it opens (or try both!). I've heard that Sweet CiCi's, Cefiore, and Pinkalicious are more expensive, right? How does Orange Leaf compare? And...how can there be two yogurt bars across the street from each other? That's crazy!

I also found a place called Choices in Holiday Manor.

Orange Leaf is indirectly responsible for/related to the expulsion of Graeter's from Lexington, so they will never get my business, at least not until Graeter's makes a return.

Now, that's interesting! Doesn't Bob Graeter live in Lexington? I'd love to hear the rest of that story, if you feel comfortable telling it and don't mind typing it in.

I like Graeter's okay, myself, but don't think I've been back since the Comfy Cow opened.

The last I heard, the only way to force a business "out of town" is to take all of their business. . .

I've seen quite a few cases - Allo Spiedo for one - where restaurants got closed by lease shenanigans. Let's wait for Blake's story rather than doubting his terms, you know?

I'll stick with my initial gut instinct about what I considered a questionable statement....

Maybe. This quote within that story speaks to my guts and says there's probably a very interesting story behind the story:

Three of Lexington's four former Graeter's stores, which closed after issues with the franchisee, will become home to Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt.

Landlord problem, Graeter's gets forced out, making way for a cold-treats competitor?
