Help Danny Mac help our Marines!

A local mother of a local marine from our area that was deployed, asked us to help show some love to her son and his platoon by collecting for some care packages. They are members of the 1/9 Marines "The Walking Dead". Feel free to look up how they got their name.



We met with the family and talked about things that are important to marines that are in active duty. These things have to be bought by the marine out of their own pay which is not much and can only be purchased once a month. We feel like we can all pitch in and get some of this stuff for these marines so they don't have to buy it and they can see how much we care about them and how much we appreciate what they are doing for us.



In the meeting, we decided to concentrate on these items:



* Long White Socks
* Hand Sanitizer
* Powdered Gatorade
* Hand Towels
* "OFF" Bug Spray
* Batteries
* Baby Wipes
* Non-Perishable Food Items (Ramen Noodles, Peanuts, Cheese Crackers,etc.)
* Wrist and Head bands
* Magazines (Sports Illustrated, Tattoo Mags, Maxim, etc.)
* Flea collars (They wear on their boots for sand fleas)

One item that stuck out on the list was AT&T 100 Minute Phone Cards.

This is an item that I really want to push on people donating. It means the world to be able to call your family when you are away and I heard that it costs them 100 minutes to get 20 minutes talk time from where they are at. These cards cost about $7 and I'm sure they will use them up and love every minute of it. Please donate these cards.

We will also be collecting a little cash for postage to send this stuff to them.

Collection Drive ends on June 26th

Having sent many-many packages to the soldiers (and sailors) over the years, I noticed one important item missing from your list: "Chew"...Skoal, whatever you want to call it. It is considered a commodity among the troops.

We just wanted this to be a family/community type effort, so we left the tobacco products out. Some of our local families are using this as a way to teach their kids how to help others. We are just concentrating on this small list and will use some of the money donated to fine tune the packages and pay for postage.
