Help! Stuck in Chicago- where to eat tonight?

by Deb Hall » Mon Jun 20, 2011 4:25 pm

All,

I missed my connection to Korea this morning and I'm stuck in Chicago over night. ( whole trip delayed a day). The only thing that will redeem this rotten day would be a great restaurant for dinner tonight, so I'm turning to my experts- you guys. :D

Here's what I'm hoping for:
Great food; preferrable something different from Louisville
Mid-range price ( company is paying but can't take too much)
Easily accessible by train from the Airport
and the kicker: Near/in a shopping district as my luggage is missing and I need to buy clothes/toiletries too.

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Deb

Gary,
Sounds yummy, thanks! But since the company's paying and I 've had a rotten day, I was thinking white tablecloth- just not super pricey. Any other thoughts?

I'd say go downtown and eat at Rick Bayless's Frontera Grill or Topolobampo, then shop on Michigan Avenue. It's a long ride from O'Hare, but I believe it's a straight shot in on the train. Why mess around in the 'burbs? 8)

Funny you should say that Robin- I'm typing this from the train to downtown/MMile. I was thinking to go to Rosebud for Italian , but Bayless' is just the kind of thing I had in mind- surprisingly I've never been. Do you know where it is?

Damn it! They are closed on Mondays.
:(
Any other MMile area suggestions?

Although it might exceed the company price limit, Spiaggia on North Michigan Ave has out-of-this-world Italian and a wonderful wine list.

It's a shame that Frontera Grill is closed on Monday. It would have fit your bill perfectly.

I also debated Spiaggia- but decided better of it given the price and the fact that I 'm extremely under dressed. I found a lovely French Bistro across from the water tower that got raves on Yelp and has an outside patio- very appealing since I 've been cooped up all day. We'll see how it measures up.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, folks!

Just for future reference, since I'm late to the party: Besides the regular, fancy schmancy Spiaggia, there's a Cafe Spiaggia at the same location. Dress is casual, and though it's been years since we ate there, the food was great.
