Late Sunday lunch near Churchill?

by Steve A » Sat Jun 18, 2011 8:27 am

We're off to the races tomorrow and are looking for a place to eat a late lunch, probably between 2-3 pm.

Understanding that a lot of local restaurants are closed Sundays, and it's father's day to boot, what are our options? Since this is our first trip to the track, we're not familiar with what's available in that area. Is there any decent dining right at the track?

Open to any ideas.

Norh End Cafe will be open Sun. from 8am-9pm. You can enjoy breakfast, luch or dinner anytime of the day. And we are relatively close to the track.

No, there is no really good options near the track. There is Sante Fe, which is inexpensive Mexican (cash only). It is on 3rd, across from UofL's baseball stadium.

I'd recommend Vietnam Kitchen which isn't too far away.

Eiderdown on Goss and Krieger should be open, that's really all I can think of to add that's within a few miles of the track that's not a chain. The new Flabby's may be open as well, but I can't find any info to confirm that. Eiderdown is a delightful choice though.

Is Zanzabar open on Sundays? That's not too far away. Third, to Eastern, to Shelby/Preston.

Makes sense if heading back east from the track.

Annie Cafe on Woodlawn, between Southern Pkwy and 3rd. Excellent Pho and other Vietnamese and a good selection of Chinese: http://www.anniecafe.com/

If you want Mexican, I second Santa Fe.

Neither of these places are "fancy", by any means, but the food is very, very good.

Please join us for brunch on Sunday. We have a full brunch and lunch menu available plus great Father's Day specials and we are open until 3pm, plus we are only about 10 minutes from the track. Very easy to head down Eastern PKW towards track.
Michele's On Goss is located inside the Goss Ave Antique Mall at 946 Goss Ave, 409-5909

We sure are, but we don't open until 5pm. If you want to wait until then I hear the foods pretty good.

Senor Iguana's in Central Center is pretty good unless you are "gasp" scared of going into a chain..

Bazo's Fresh Mexican Grill is only a few blocks away at 4th and Cardinal. We're open regular hours (until 9pm).
