Where is the best burger place in Louisville? I'm talking thick, tasty burgers and great toppings.

My favorite burger is the burger at Jack Fry's. Probably one of the best burgers I've had anywhere in the world. It's always cooked properly and the combo of the melty cheddar cheese with the caramelized onions is amazing. No better burger in town.

Bluegrass Burger at the old Boombozz location on Frankfort at Cannons.

I agree with AP Crafters, which seems to be doing really good things with burgers.

Bunz is good too.

Dish on Market had an excellent burger when we were there. Lots of good burgers around. Also see the links Justin provided.

My favorite burgers:
AP Crafters... right by my house... good topping, great burgers. Thick, juicy... i've waxed eloquent on it before...

Flanagan's: Great burger in a fun bar on Bardstown road. Haven't had it in a few months, so I'm not sure the quality is as good.

Bunz: Good burger. I haven't been back in awhile, and need to give it a second try.

Bourbon's Bistro: haven't been there for the burger yet, but I've heard nothing but good things. It's on my list.

Shady Lane: Bill makes a good burger. Great little spot for lunch (and dinner!)

Jeez...this is a tough one. A.P. Crafters did in fact put up a fine burger last week but I suppose my "Go To" burgers (leaning heavily on the east side because that's where we live) would be Shady Lane, The New Direction and Rooties. If we throw "chains" into the mix I'm also quite fond of Five Guys.

We haven't tried the Burger at Boubon's but the last time we were bellied up to the bar a gentleman sitting beside us ordered one and it LOOKS phenomenal...It's definitely on my burger "bucket list".

I really need to get to Bunz and give it a try. AP Crafters, not just for their burgers, is on my "short list."

I had dinner last night at Bluegrass Burgers. The burger was quite solid...and the fact that the beef and bison are KY raised, grass-fed and hormone / antibiotic free is a big plus. I really enjoyed the smokey gouda cheese my burger was topped with. The toppings bar was solid, but nothing tremendously special. One knock is that the lettuce was romaine / beginning to discolor...not terrible, but I love shredded lettuce on my burger. Also, I tried hand-cut fries, sweet potato fries and onion rings (the whole family went for dinner) and all of these options were quite tasty.

My #1 go-to spot for burgers is still ww cousins. The beef is always juicy, flavorful and cooked as-ordered, the buns are awesome, and couisins's toppings bar is unbeatable.

Homerun burgers is a close second...just an all-around good burger, cooked on a flat-top with more than adequate topping options at a very reasonable price.

I've had a few burgers at some of the nicer places, Varanese, Bourbons Bistro, etc. While these items were elevated beyond "standard burger fare" with crispy fried proscuitto, frites, etc. I always felt I would have been better off ordering the burgers at a burger joint.

Oh yeah, the Granville Inn make a mean burger...maybe some of the tastiest meat around, but the toppings options are pretty standard.

The one meal I've had a Bourbon's (which was great) I couldn't tear myself away from the "standard" dinners... I think the wife and I ordered a steak and a pork dish... So many places to return to, to try... it's almost overwhelming!

IMO, Bourbon's burger is very good, and if you are in a burger-mood, then you won't be dissatisfied. However, the burger is such a tower...they put the hand-cut fries, a whole portobello, bacon (I think), cheese and other "standard" toppings, that you need to deconstruct that monolith to eat it! With that said, it is probably the most magnificent / daunting burger I've ever seen. Kinda' like a Woody Stevens (corned beef & pastrami) from Carnegie Deli...massive!!! Also, they top the burger with "field mixed greens." I prefer iceburg on my burger and balsamic dressing on my field greens! :)

I also second any burger from Flannigans.

Oh, let's not forget Home Run Burgers! It may look like a chain, with two or three local operations that look quite a bit like Five Guys without the peanuts  but it's strictly localed by Bob Kiper and his daughter Kathy S, both of whom are also forumites and deserve a little support. :)

Actually I think burgers need to be divided into two categories. They are the burgers that are served at sit down restaurants such as Bourbons Bistro, Jack Fry's, AP Crafters, etc. where they are basically a menu item and you're eating at a full service restaurant that has many other items available in usually a full bar. Then there are the counter service burger restaurants such as Home Run Burger, 5 Guys, WW Cousins, etc. which are less formal, provide a faster meal in most cases and are usually less expensive. At least in our case the first decide what kind of a restaurant we're looking for and then decide which one to go to. They all have excellent burgers in their own right it just depends on what kind of mood you are in!

My favorite is the bison burger with blue cheese @ BBC St. Mathews

Other favorites;
-Cahoots' beef burger
-Bluegrass Burger's beef (juicy, peppery and nice charring) as well as their Black Bean burger (not on the menu and not to be confused with their bland Veggie Burger (I think it might be a Morningstar Farms patty)) Anyway, the BLACK BEAN burger is delicious....one of the better vegetarian restaurant patties I've had.
-Five Guys
-White Castle's Jalapeno cheeseburger

I have yet to, but will make it a point to try the much ballyhooed burgers at Granville, Bambi Bar and Bunz.
