Mary and I ran over after the St. Matthew's Food Pantry, and it was GREAT! Huge mob, Mozza Pi ran out of pizza by 1 p.m., but everybody seemed to be having a great time.

Food trucks that ended up there, clockwise from left:

Li'L Cheezers
El Rumbon
Mozza Pi
Morels

There was also a booth selling some kind of artisanal German beer I hadn't heard of before - Stieglitz or something like that, and a band. I was a bunch o' HotByters there. Mary and I had a Banh Mi Hot Dog and a Korean Bratwurst from Morels, and both were awesome, dressed with spicy veggie toppings. I don't know what kind of vegan analogue they used for meat, but both were amazing. I'm sure if you handed me one and didn't tell me it was vegan I wouldn't have noticed.

Quick video

by Robin Garr » Sat Jun 18, 2011 2:03 pm

This hardly even counts as a video, but I took my iPhone in vidcam mode and panned around the circle of trucks and back to give a little sense of the scene. I wish they could have gotten the San Diego Wrap truck and Busta Grill there, too.

Here's the snippet:

My girlfriend and I were there and enjoyed a Cuban from El Rumbon and a Thai Pi from Mozza Pi. Both were excellent. Really wanted to check out Cheezers but ran out out room. Sad to not see San Diego there, but I go there every week, so not a big loss for me, personally.

DANG! I missed it! Was it in the white bus? It was so crowded, it looked like that bus was parked over out of the way and wasn't part of the circle.

Andrea and I got there around 1. Stood in line for Lil Cheezers about an hour and a half, and finally got some of the last sandwiches before they ran out. They were delicious, though!

Thought I saw you over in the tent, Robin, but couldn't make it over to say hi. Maybe next time!

Nope, just a small push cart and grill. Always had a line from the minute he opened.

Just posted it separately, but I'll put it here too: I just created a Twitter list of all the local food truck tweets I can find (all but El Rumbon) and made it public at http://ow.ly/5l0nK

You can click and read this stream without having to have a Twitter account or log in.

I was there with my family from 11:40 - 1:00. The Vegan truck was really good and got its product out. Delicious. MozzaPi looked excellent. El Rumbon turned out a good sandwich, too.

But Lil Cheezers??? Maybe I just don't get it. I've never seen a more disorganized and inefficient operation: order and stand around for 35-40 minutes for what turned out to be an overpriced product lacking in much, including CHEESE! My wife and daughter both had their high end offerings, at $8 per sandwich, and both were sorely disappointed. I avoided such disaapointment by canceling my order after waiting for 30 minutes and watching them turn out 2-3 sadwiches every 5 minutes or so. Their two sandwiches may have had enough cheese for one sandwich, total. My daughter, a bit of a foodie from Baltimore (with food truck dining experience) whom I enticed down here for Father's Day at least partially with the Truckus Ruckus promise, was bitterly disappointed with the Fancy Pants Grilled Cheese. She said she would never eat another one if it was free, let alone stand around on the pavement for 40 minutes waiting for it to be served. We can do way better at Shoney's (or anyplace else, for that matter). Or, like I said, maybe I just don't get it.
My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.
