Alliance Francaise de Louisville celebrates with Ghyslain

by Melissa Guidry » Thu Jun 09, 2011 1:15 pm

From our Quoi de Neuf newsletter encouraging members and the public at large to attend
Fete de la Musique
Friday, June 24, 2011
6:30 - 9 p.m.
From http://www.fetedelamusique.culture.fr/
English: http://www.fetedelamusique.culture.fr/e ... sentation/
Launched in 1982 by the French Ministry for culture, the Fete de la Musique is held in more than hundred countries in Europe and over the world. It takes place every 21st June, the day of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere.

Thanks to the impulse and the dynamism of the French cultural network abroad (the departments of Cultural Affairs at the French Embassies, french cultural Centers and Institutes and the Alliances Francaises) the Fete has an important international growth. Indeed, a lot of events are now set up by local organisers (Ministries for Culture, City Councils, local artistic associations, etc.). For example, in Europe, a professional and institutional network, called "Fete europeenne de la Musique", was created. In other countries, the informations about the programmes and the reports on the 21st of June are less formal, there are many projects indeed.

We have to invent the Fete de la Musique again and again, taking care of each country cultural specificities. In this way, it will become a real emblematic event in most of the countries.

Celebrate music and the Summer Solstice at Ghyslain, Louisville’s intriguing addition to the restaurant scene on East Market Street in the heart of NuLu.

Grab a sauvignon blanc, a croque monsieur, and a patisserie at this wonderful Quebecois cafe, chocolatier, & neighborhood gem.

Join Parisians and other hot metropoles around the world in this annual festival of spontaneous street music and dancing.

Listen to tunes from jazz (Philippe Saisse, Jean-Luc Ponty), to pop (Yelle, Kyo), to electronic (St. Germain), to chanson (Charles Aznavour, Edith Piaf), to hip-hop (IAM, MC Solaar) provided by DJ Mark.

Ghyslain, 721 E. Market Street (behind Creation Garden’s headquarters.)

As Ghyslain is a public restaurant, this event is of a first come, first served nature. However, to provide Ghyslain the courtesy of an expected attendance number for staffing purposes, we ask that you R.S.V.P. by Tuesday, June 21, 2011 noting the number of persons in your party:
afschool@bellsouth.net

Merci bien et à bientot!

Sponsored by the Alliance Francaise de Louisville
“French language classes, French conversation club, cultural events, and much, much more.”

Melissa, I apologize for having to tweak the formatting of your post a little. Something in it was freaking out our front page box that lists links to recent forum posts. I had to work by trial and error for a while to find out that it was the "quote" box around the Fete explanation, but before that I tried taking out the accented characters. I know that fractures the French, and I'm sorry, but I hope it's still okay for our English-speaking audience. :)
