why i ate at a chain tonight......

by Becky M » Thu Jun 02, 2011 11:26 pm

i know that the whole chain thing is so super controversial here. but i went to one tonight....... let me tell you why.

i do not have not much money to spend, MAIN REASON A CHAIN IS CHOSEN. tonight we attended the art show that my daughter had several pieces in. she received two 1st place and one was 2nd place, pretty good for a freshman. :D :D :D it was kind of a special night for us, and the kids wanted to "celebrate".

so here i am with two teenagers, two toddlers, and myself, all hungry. i had received that roll of junk mail and there were some Captain D's coupons in there. plus today kids eat free, yay.

we got:

10 pieces of cornmeal fried fish
4 large baked potatoes
1 pint of green beans

6 pieces of chicken (2 per kids meal - they gave us three)
2 orders of fries (came with kids meal)
1 order of mac and cheese (came with kids meal)

14 hushpuppies in total

3 drinks for the kids (included in free kids meal)
2 waters also free for myself and oldest daughter

all of that for a grand total of : $13.90

yeah the fish is a little small. the chicken was small as well. i do not know if the green beans were canned. i HATE canned green beans, they have a funny taste, but these were seasoned ok and passable. my daughters mac and cheese, totally yucky, but SHE enjoyed it. cant go wrong with a baked potato. fries were actually ok, they were fresh and not burnt. hushpuppies, we all like them, a lot.

we all ate well and we had enough leftover to bring my husband some fish, one piece of chicken, plenty hushpuppies, a potato, and some green beans.

again.... all of that for $13.90!!! i dont know where else i could have gotten all that food for that price.

but the main thing..... the most important thing, to ME, was that the kids and i got out for a while. We had a nice little time.

Death to chains.... yes i know, but this little visit to a chain livened up my family for a while.

Hey Becky, Relax. Like you said the important thing is that you got out and enjoyed a meal and felt good about it. That is what it is all about. My wife and I had a great date last Monday. Hangover 2 and Steak n Shake. What a good time.

Don't sweat it Becky. You don't have to fall on the ceremonial sword on behalf of the anti-chain members of this forum. The Spanish Inquisition ended long ago! The consistant theme of "death to chains" and "evil corporations" is all P.C. Bull@#$%^. Nobody REALLY wants to see what Louisville would be like if some how all things corporate dissapeared. Eat where ever you like.

Becky, as the others have said, there's no need for apologies here! Your family had fun. You got a good value. What's not to like?

But let's hold up before we lose sight of what is REALLY important here:

YAY!!! Congrats to your daughter! It sounds like she has a real talent, and isn't it great to see it recognized? :D :D

My kids and I eat ate chains, thats what they like.

Chick-fil-a w/ a playland? Forget it, its on and that goes for Gattiland as well. Long John Silvers, Moby Dick, Skyline, Whities, Popeyes, Spagetti Factorty, Red Lobster etc.. and we even celebrated my youngest first birthday at Moe's. He loves Moe's. We are some Moe eatin Mo-fo's :-)

sorry that i came across that i felt bad about eating at a chain... i dont

Just that as i was sitting there, i looked around and said to myself, the world isnt going to end because we are here! plus, i saw others eating, and they all looked to be enjoying themselves as well. From the little elderly couple that i am sure were having a "senior deal" to the other families.

Thanks Robin and Gayle..... we are SOOO proud of her. As i told someone else, she had been sketching since she could pick up a crayon!!!... she gets it from her father, i "draw" stick figures.... lol we feel like she has finally reached her place to shine.
